About Mrs. Funnel Cake

BM Fever

May 25th, 2011 @ 9:39 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

I should really be using this time to do my German homework, but now that I’ve updated y’all on what a Polterabend is, I want to share what’s been on my mind as of late:

There are three women whom I would consider top choices for the bridesmaid role at this point in my life, but they happen to live in Chicago, Columbus, and New York City. All a bit far from Swiss land.

I see some logistics issues here.

Pragmatic me figured that since we are planning the wedding from the other side of the pond, I would save everyone the headache and just ask my BFF in NYC to be my maid of honour. One girl, one BM dress, decision done and dusted. Right?

Mr. Funnel Cake is only asking his brother to be his best man because, quite frankly, he doesn’t really have a lot of other friends he would even bother asking. He is a class-A loner, so much so that sometimes I’m surprised he can bear having me around ALL the time. (I am the chink in his frigid Swiss armour…?)

While I could easily think of 10 women I could ask to be bridesmaids, I was OK with our practical decision to only have one person each stand by us as we get married…until I started my search for a photographer in September 2010 and I saw pictures like this:

With my brain awash in perfectly symmetrical, drool-worthy, picture-perfect bridesmaids, I slowly began to rethink my smart decision. Pretty pictures aside, I thought about who I really want surrounding me as I prepare on the big day, then I thought why not have these gals wear some awesome digs and be there as real bridesmaids, too? I mean, it’s my wedding—C’MON. It looks. so. fun.

So damned if Sister Funnel Cake is in Chicago, SIL Funnel Cake is in Columbus, and BFF MOH is in New York—they are going to be a trifecta of amazing hotness and I am excited about it!! Seriously, thinking about getting all dressed up with my girlies in America has me all bubbly!

Are you a sucker for bridesmaid photos, too?

Yes! And I have to say, some of my favorite wedding photos were those with my girls! We did an “array of pink” dresses, and they looked fabulous all together! Seeing all my favorite girls dolled up with fancy dresses was definitely a wedding day highlight for me!

For my cousins wedding she asked that we all have a long black dress. Each girl came from a different area so it worked out perfectly!

oh, i love that shot of all the bridesmaids in teal seemingly doing random fun things around the bride. alas, i will likely only have one attendant though. i can only think of two people i could ask anyway (MAYBE three), but since we’re planning a small, intimate affair, it doesn’t make sense to have the troupe of maids, even if “troupe” is only three…

My other-half is exactly the same as Mr. FC. He’s only asking 1 (possibly 2) people to stand with him because he’s a loner. :-)

You should be surrounded by the ladies you love most and who love you most.

You aboslutely should have your best ladies stand up as bridesmaids. All that matters is that they be there on the day of your wedding. Who cares where they are in the interim. Also, don’t worry about your guy only having one groomsman and you having more bridesmaids. I am having 5 bridesmaids, and my FI is having 7 groomsman. Uneven, but whatever! Do what you want!
