Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.

Say Hello to My Little Friends

May 25th, 2011 @ 6:03 pm by Mrs. Seal

I’m just going to come right out and say it: I have stretch marks. I have stretch marks and I don’t even have a cute baby to blame for them. No, no, hive. My stretch marks are lovingly attributed to my life-long struggle with weight. I’ve had these pesky little boogers for a while now (I’m thinkin’ at least a decade). This is particularly lovely because I hear the longer you wait to do anything about them the more difficult it is to fade them into oblivion.

Anyhow, let me illustrate for you. Let’s pretend for a moment that the woman depicted below is me and let’s let the arrows represent the affected stretch mark areas.

Oh, and I didn’t put that happy gal into a strapless gown on accident. Though I’m not showing you my dress before the wedding, I will tell you it’s strapless.

So you know what that means? All of my beautiful stretch mark friends will be on full display come wedding time. You’re welcome. :)

Now, some of you may be wondering what my deal is. Do I like these marks, or what? The fact of the matter is…I don’t really give a hoot either way. Yes. I’ve struggled with my weight in the past. Yes. I have battle scars to show for it. So what? I mean, I don’t love them but I don’t think they make me completely hideous either.

The only thing I am concerned about is that my guests, the ones who aren’t so used to my little battle scars, will be totally distracted by them. Silly? Maybe. I dunno. I think it’s probable. I find strangers looking at them all the time. I’ve gotten used to it, but I don’t want to feel even the slightest bit self-conscious on my big day.

They’ve long lost their color and aren’t super noticeable but today they look a bit like this:

My shoulder and armpit.

The ones on my chest are a bit more prominent but I don’t have the huevos to post a close-up picture of my tatas on the interwebs for everyone to see. (HI MOM!)

So kids, do you have stretch marks, too? Any amazing (inexpensive) miracle cream out there to make them vanish forever and ever and ever?

I do.

I also wore a strapless dress.. there is not even a hint of them in any of the pro or non pro photos. They are more prominent when you look at them yourself because of the angle..

I did get a spray tan which helped a little.

My suggestion is to forget the little blighters and enjoy your day x

Thanks for positing this because I am battling with the same insecurities with myself and my newly purchased strapless dress.

In the words of my man I am my own work critic and perhaps this is true. While everyone else sees me now 120 pounds lighter all I see is extra skin and stretchmarks, despite the weight loss.

I have found that Jergens lotion with color does a lot to mask the hints of stretchmarks especially on your arms. I use it about every other day.

If nothing else you will look fabulous on your wedding day and I doubt anyone will the signs of weight gain/loss when you come out wearing your amazing dress.

nope. embrace them or wear a cover up. i have em too, all over my arms….as long as they aren’t angry red, I HIGHLY doubt your guests will notice a teensy detail like that. Relax!

I don’t actually see them! but if you just want to make sure and feel good about them, a spray tan just to add glow to your color would be great and would also finish covering them. also, what about those glowing creams?

Ok this might sound odd but had you thought of trying Acupuncture? I am a student of Traditional Chinese Medicine and last week one of my profs mentioned that it has helped some of his patients with strech marks… I have them too so gonna get on that treating myself right away!

I have the same problem! I’m very fair so mine are really noticeable. I used to be pretty insecure about them but now they don’t bother me as much.

I don’t think anyone will notice them, they will be focusing on your stunning bridal beauty. :)

I love the wedding bee but have never posted or really felt the need until this post. I am in the exact same boat with stretchmarks very noticeable on my chest and from my arm down to the crook of my elbow. I am considering different things like covering them or adding sleeves to my dress. While I understand that most people wouldn’t care I can’t imagine spending the day wondering who’s noticing.
I went from 275 to a current 158 but have too recently gained 18!!! pounds after getting engaged. I’m on the long road back to losing these and am really anticipating your future posts!
Good luck!

AAhhh I totally know where your coming from !!! but guess what ??? i used to have them too, my grandma told me to take a regular cocoa butter stick (must be the stick, not the lotion) and every night before you go to sleep, rub that stick on the area where there are stretch marks. i did it just to give it a try and they went away (i too had them in the bosoms area lol) thanks grandma !!! so i would say give it a try.. head over to a cvs, rite aid, walgreens and im sure they have it - it isnt expensive either, like $3 maybe.. def worth a try.. =)

I know the feeling Ms. Seal….I have a few little friends too! I’ve used Mederma (sp?) it’s AMAZING!! I used it on newer marks, but it says that it works for old ones as well. Try it out! They sell it at any drugstore for under $20! So worth it to me! ;) Good luck!

Props to you for bringing this up! I’ve been having my stretch marks also, legs, shoulder, armpit and around my boobs. When I was shopping for my dress, I already knew I was no way gonna wear a strapless and didn’t want to wear sleeveless. I bought a strapless and was gonna wear a lacy top, but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible. So I settled to add thick straps coz at least it didn’t show during my wedding.
This past weekend, I was a bridesmaid and had to wear a strapless dress. I didn’t feel confident at all with my stretch marks showing and my big boobs out there. But I had to suck it up.
I think part of this is my shame because unlike you, I didn’t struggle with weight issues. Well it ’s because I never really tried to lose weight. I wanna try soon.
OH yea, I give props to Jennifer Hudson. She has lost a lot of weight but if you see in pictures… her stretchmarks are very visible yet she still rocks her looks.

Cocoa butter. I haven’t tried the stick like lovelii mentions (I’m going to try it now though!), but if you apply Cocoa butter lotion to the stretchmarks daily, they will fade over time. Granted, I’m not talking instant results. It may take months, but maybe the stick works faster.

I’ve got stretch marks across my knees and my fanny from a huge growth spurt in middle school. The ones on my knees at least make me feel a little unique because I’ve never seen anyone else that had them there.

We all have a little “tiger” in us showing through! Not helping? No? Well I tried. ;)

Oh shoot. No one will notice your stretch marks if they look anything in real life like they do in your picture. All your guests will notice is your gorgeous face and gorgeous dress. No one is going to look at the inside portion of your arm. I promise. =)

I would have never noticed the stretch marks in your photo without the arrows. Every woman has a part of her body she’s not happy with, and a lot of us tend to obsess over that one feature. We always notice it on other women. I’m self conscious about my nose, so I always notice other women’s noses. For others, it’s boobs, tummies, complexions, height, hair length/color/fullness/smoothness, etc.

I promise you that people without stretch marks won’t notice yours, and women with stretch marks will empathize. It’s your wedding, and most people will only see your glowing smile and beautiful dress.

Got em!! Mine cropped up after a particularly challenging summer (boy troubles and free food at the pizza place I worked at) and got them right in the middle of my stomach on either side of my belly button.

I can’t wait to have a kid so I have something besides “boys and too much pizza” to blame it on ;)

I barely even can see them in that picture. Maybe people notice them in person (and think, “oh!” and then move on with their lives, I hope), but I don’t think you’ll notice them in your pictures, and I sincerely doubt your wedding guests will be terribly distracted by them :)

Ugh. Stretch marks. I have ‘em but they’re on my tooshie so the only one who every sees ‘em is Mr TM…I’m def going to have to try the cocoa butter!

And, like others have mentioned, I still can’t really see anything in your photo so I doubt anyone will notice!

Well I can barely see them. But apparently BioOil is a good product to use. Haven’t tried it myself for this particular problem but it helps scars heal etc. So it should work for stretch marks.
