Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

After Mr. Cardigan and I finished up our first dance, it was time for me to dance with my dad.

When it came time for Daddy Cardigan and I to choose what song we wanted to dance to, it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I e-mailed him a few ideas of songs that we might want to do, and my mom called me the next day and let me know that he had tried to listen to the songs at work but had to stop because he started crying.

That’s right, my big, gruff daddy started crying at work listening to father-daughter dance songs.

He tried again at home a few days later, and picked out one of the songs I had sent him. We were both very nervous leading up to our dance because we both thought we’d burst into tears, but I experienced the same feeling I had earlier that day when I was walking down the aisle—I was so happy and excited that I just couldn’t cry. The song was incredibly touching, and the father-daughter dance was wonderful, but it (thankfully) didn’t bring either of us to tears.

And now that I’ve told the story of picking our song, I’ll leave you with some photos and the lyrics to the song we chose.

Take My Sweater: Dad and Daughter : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 1 1

Look at the two of you dancing that way,
Lost in the moment and each other’s face
So much in love, you’re alone in this place
Like there’s nobody else in the world

I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one, she told me so
And she still means the world to me, just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl

Time changes everything, life must go on
And I’m not gonna stand in your way

Take My Sweater: Dad and Daughter : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 2 2

But I loved her first, I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first

Take My Sweater: Dad and Daughter : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 3 3

How could that beautiful woman with you
Be the same freckle-faced kid that I knew?
The one that I read all those fairytales to
And tucked into bed all those nights

And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

I loved her first, I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep

Take My Sweater: Dad and Daughter : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 4 4

And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep

Someday you might know what I’m going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

I can’t even read the lyrics because they’re so sweet. The pictures are great. For ours, I picked “When You Wish Upon a Star” because my Daddy-Man and I always see Disney cartoon movies together. It’s our thing.

Great photos - we didn’t cry either! But…that is probably because I had cried only moments before our dance when my dad surprised me by singing/playing piano with a live version of Ben Fold’s Gracie Girl (changing the words to fit me)! It was a total surprise and I sobbed like a baby! So, by the time our dance rolled around, he was just so excited to tell me all about his surprise! :o) I love Dads!

If you don’t mind my asking - what other songs did you consider?

I Loved her First by Hearland. This is the song my Dad and I are going to dance to also!!! I cried the first time I heard it and knew it would be perfect. Dad cried too and immidately agreed to it.
I really hope I don’t cry either - its such an emotional song.
Maybe listening to it over and over again will help get all the tears out.

Awww!! I think that is so sweet! And the look on both your faces in those photos, awesome!

Oh and tell Daddy C for me that I think it was so sweet that he cried listening to the songs.

@Erin: It’s “I Loved Her First” by Heartland.
@MissBucky: We looked at this one, “My Wish” by Rascall Flats, “Stealing Cinderella” by Chuck Wicks, and “Cinderella” by Stephen Curtis Chapman.

My daddy and I are dancing to this too! I had never heard it before until he called me one day (before I was even engaged) and told me that it would be our father-daughter dance song. It makes me cry everytime!

I love this song. “I Loved Her First” and “Stealing Cinderella” are two of my top picks for my dance with my daddy, but ultimately the choice will be his.

I’m very nervous for this dance, so I’m relieved to hear that sheer happiness took over for you two :)

Cardy! I told you we were alike! that was my DREAM to dance with my daddy to that song at my wedding my ENTIRE life….. the only difference is that at the END of the day when there was actually a ring on my finger and I had to make it official, my dad didn’t like the song!!!! But my sister suggested “Stealing Cinderella” by Chuck Wicks and when my dad heard it he ACTUALLY CRIED TOO and I knew that it was meant to be! I loved this post! :)

@MissBucky: These are the ones my Dad and I considered:
 “I loved her first” – Heartland
 “Cinderella” – Steven Curtis Chapman
 “I’ll always be your baby” – Natalie Grant
