About Mrs. Cotton Candy

The Gift Not Wanted

May 25th, 2011 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Cotton Candy

By now you’ve probably noticed that the Cotton Candy wedding isn’t your typical formal affair. It probably goes without saying that the some of the more traditional wedding day traditions and accessories such as a garter, cake cutting set, and toasting flutes aren’t high on the CCandy must-have list. Actually, these items are on our don’t need/don’t want/please don’t waste your money on it-list.

Mami CCandy apparently hasn’t gotten the memo. For the past 6 months she’s been insisting that it is Sister CC’s duty as maid of honor to gift us toasting flutes and a cake server. We couldn’t go to one family gathering without her bringing it up. The most mundane conversations would lead to a discussion about toasting flutes and cake cutting. I’m not sure why she was so obsessed, but no amount of reason would change her mind, so it was no surprise when I unwrapped sister CC’s shower gift and found this:

For a second I thought sister CC had bought me some shoes. Perhaps some cute wedding flats for dancing? Not so much. I opened the box to reveal the sweetest, cutest, champagne flutes ever.

I L-O-V-E, love our flutes, and all of the common sense reasons to not have them have since left my brain. Yes, they are totally impractical, super breakable, and expensive but Sister CC was excited to give them to us and for us to use them on our day, and so are we!

Lesson learned. If friends and family want to gift you something for your big day, let them. It comes from a good place and you may just find yourself loving your new gift!

Tell me Hive: have you received a gift you swore you didn’t want/need only to find yourself head-over-heels in love with it?

We weren’t going to have a cake server and then my Grandma brought my Great Grandma’s silver over which had a cake server in it. Done. Cake server had to be used. Love those flutes.

I would have thought they were shoes too! These are so cute though, I can see why they changed your mind on toasting flutes!

I felt the same way about flutes, I just don’t want to bring them to the venue and then make sure someone gets them at the end of the night. Then I got a pair at my shower this past weekend, they are pretty but sadly I still feel like they aren’t necessary.

gorgeous flutes!

Is it really the MOH’s duty to give the toasting flutes? I had no idea.

OMG, those are adorable!! And, for what it’s worth, if you’re going to cut your cake, it’s probably a good idea to have some type of cake server or you could end up like us and cut your cake using the handle of a SPOON :)

These are adorable. I agree. Nay saying the necessity of a gift makes you seem ungrateful.
