Mr. Pony has an awesome family that I am so excited to be joining in just a few months. They have always been completely welcoming and kind to me. We would like to include as much family as possible in our wedding, including Mr. Pony’s younger brother, Little P. (Hee hee, it’s funny cause he is like six years older than me.)
Although they have spent the majority of their adult lives in different countries, the Ps are still as close as ever:

There was never a question that Little P would be the best man at our wedding. But there is no guarantee that Little P will be attending our wedding.
You see, Little P is in the military. And being part of the military means living by someone else’s rules and following someone else’s timetable. Knowing he would be sent oversees upon graduating from business school in May, Little P opted to start his deployment in August so that he would be back in time to finish his last year of school and be able to attend our wedding.
After months of waiting for paperwork to go through the proper channels, Little P was sent to the Middle East for his year of service just a few weeks ago, postponing his graduation plans and lessening his opportunity to participate in our wedding.
Luckily, Little P is entitled to leave during his service year, and he has already requested that leave during our wedding. As of now, his request has been approved but, as I am sure anyone with a loved one in the military understands, this is subject to change before September. It’s subject to change at any time until he is on the ground in Illinois.
Right now, there is nothing we can do but hope and pray that Little P remains safe and that he will be granted leave so he can celebrate with us.
Little P’s obligations to our country are larger and more important than our wedding and, at the very least, have given me a better perspective and appreciation for the sacrifices and work our military does every day.
Ideally, Little P will be standing next to Mr. Pony on our wedding day, just as it should be. (Otherwise, I support a cardboard-cutout option.)
And now, a Pony-family photo montage:
We’re thinking of you, Little P, and all the other men and women of our armed forces. We can’t wait to celebrate with you on our wedding day.
Do you have a loved one in the military serving overseas? How do you deal with deployments?
