About Mrs. Funnel Cake

A Simple Impression

May 26th, 2011 @ 2:47 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

As Mr. Funnel Cake was packing up for the army on a Sunday night, we remembered that we STILL hadn’t ordered our custom wax stamp for the invites. Oops.

We want red stamps like these, sans crosses. (Image via Black Metal Postcards)

Mr. FC was about to join his fellow Swiss skydiving comrades for a week, and after that we were going to Malta for holiday, so we both wanted to just get this ordered so that when we finally decide on and print our invites, we’ll have the stamping materials ready.

I tried out a few KH-only stamp designs, but we pretty much have our hearts set on (KH)². It’s just so mathematically cute. KH x KH = (KH)². Ahh…love.

I whipped out Illustrator and started designing really simple buttons. Mr. Funnel Cake was concerned about the ² make the whole thing off centre, so I did a few variations for him.

Again, I didn’t tell him which fonts he was looking at, but he started leaning toward Helvetica again. The man is sooo Swiss; he cannot help it.

So since we are doing the invites in Helvetica, we just went with it for the stamp as well. It only makes sense!!

Anyone else doing wax seals? What’s on your stamp?

We are just doing a plain heart.
We have considered making a stamper with our initials out of a wooden dye. It is actually pretty easy.

We sooooo want to do them!!!! except, ours will be the “sigil” of a particular character. I think it’ll be really special to have due to the history around said character.

It’s basically a gargoyle’s tooth overlaid with a Kriss dagger to form an “X”.

And we ARE gonna get it! I swear we are!!! LOL! And we wanna use silver wax with it, too!

Yep yep! The Seals are using seals :) Howeeevveerrr, we are going the faux wax route (glue gun wax) and our stamp is a simple monogram. We’ve done a few practice rounds and they look pretty nice! I *love* the look of wax seals.

@Ryna: Ooh sounds very cool! I heard silver is a little tricky to do. (Or we are just lazy). Mr FC wanted to try gold or silver emboss on top of the red, but we haven’t even found the material yet so I’m shooting that idea down. :) Good luck with yours!

@Miss Seal: Shhhh we are doing glue gun wax too. *nobodysaidanything* ;-)

@hollyshobbies: I think ours are OK because they’ll be inside envelopes. But we aren’t doing traditional wax either, we are doing the glue gun wax so I think it holds up to heat better. (AT least I hope!)

I’ve never worked with wax seals before, but I’d love to get an invitation with one, for sure!

Hi Bees,
Where do you find the glue gun wax? Are there websites that sell this? It seems easier/cleaner then real wax :)
Thanks!

@Future Mrs. Leon: Mr. FC actually bought the wax gun and glue at a local craft store, but I have seen them a lot of places online too! http://www.letterseals.com/ is one, but I’m sure there are tons more on google. Good luck searching! :)

We used wax seals and everyone commented on them! We ended up having to pay the post office extra to mail (annoying!) but it worked out in the end (after a semi melt down in the post office!). You don’t need a special glue gun, you just buy the “glue gun wax” sticks and use your normal glue gun. Also, we ended up making them in bulk on wax paper first then gluing them on the envelopebecause we were afraid they would pop off. Assembly line went pretty fast. Our invites were pretty simple so I loved being able to add this sweet little detail. Enjoy!!
