As an artist and designer, I use a lot of color and play with texture and patterns when I can. My closet is the same way: a kaleidoscope of shoes, purses, clothing, and accessories. When it came time to talk wedding colors, Mr. Macarons was a bit worried I’d want something like this:

He was relieved when I showed him this:

When I started the board, I was all about bold colors and saturated hues. But when I began working—when I closed my eyes and actually pictured the wedding I wanted—I found myself designing something a little more timeless and soft. Our palette consists of lavender, ivory, and dove gray with pops of sage green and a slightly darker and muted purple.
I found a way to balance my own instincts with what is “right” for a wedding. That’s my hint: Your toenail polish may say one thing, but really picture the event itself when you’re choosing wedding colors.
