Something I didn’t think would need to happen: going back and regularly evaluating our registry choices. But it has. And it’s good! We registered back before Christmas, after a push from my mum. “People might buy Christmas presents off it!” People didn’t. But it meant we got the hard decisions about picking a china pattern done with early on in the wedding process, which was nice. We registered at The Bay (Canada’s equivalent to Macy’s, I guess) and on Amazon.ca.
Just before we sent out our invites, we went back to The Bay and had another look at what we’d registered for. We didn’t put the registry info on the invites, but we did put our wedding website on them, which has links and info about both our registries. While we were at The Bay that second time, we made some changes, things we’d thought of since then. We registered mainly for china, as we’re quite happy with our pots and pans and towels, and I bought myself my own Kitchen Aid 6 months before he proposed. The china pattern we registered for is a set of mix-and-match patterns, and I had decided that we wanted the cereal bowls in a different pattern than we originally chose, etc etc.
I actually found that second visit really helpful.
We hadn’t thought about the registry for a while, we’d had time to mull over our choices and think about things. We also realised that we needed to register for a bit more, so we added matching wine glasses and tumblers that we waffled over on our first visit:
Denby Jet Tumbler, Denby Jet White Wine
At first we felt greedy adding even more to what seemed like a large list, but now that people are buying things… I think we need more more! In one fell swoop my aunties bought all our cutlery and half of the Jet glasses we added! The two large (read: expensive) serving pieces we registered for are gone already!
We made a bit more of an effort to see if The Bay could order in some of the things we’d registered for on Amazon, and it turned out they could. I’ve never seen any Le Creuset in Caribbean in any Bay, but because they carry the red ones, it is possible for the them to order our (much prettier
) colour:

There is a kettle we want (it has different temperature buttons for different teas!) that we put on our Amazon list because it was much cheaper from there than in the store, but everyone is ignoring the Amazon list and buying from The Bay, so I think we might switch that over, too. It was nice to add the Le Creuset stuff to the list to pad it out but those things are DAMN expensive. I realised after adding them that we’re running out of lower-priced items, and adding a few $200+ items was not helping.
I’ve come to learn to accept the registry as a living list that needs to be monitored. Given the amount that has been bought off of it already by only 4 couples…I think the next step will be adding small bowls:
And the next step after that? That might have to be upping the quantity of everything so we end up with a set of 12 instead of 8.
Fun fact: my English aunties (the ones who bought the cutlery) and their families wanted to bring us something local to England, but couldn’t think of what. Then they realised that they could just buy us any china or glassware from our registry because Denby is English! They were horrified at the prices charged here for it (it is an import here!) so they bought direct from the source, and are bringing over wine glasses in their luggage. ![]()
How many times have you gone back and adjusted your registry? Do you stalk it online? (Something I’m guilty of!)
