It’s a sign, girls, that on William and Kate’s big day, exactly six months before my own wedding day, I found them. I found my wedding shoes! (Hip hip hooray!)
I was pretty adamant that I did NOT want the typical Swiss wedding shoe (white pointy monstrosity) that grace all the bridal shops here. They are horrible old-lady shoes that would make my size-10 feet look like small whales. I’ve been combing the bridal classifieds in Switzerland, and almost the only type of shoes being sold are these style, which means they’re obviously favoured here:
Even on deep sale at the boutique across from my tram stop, I would rather barf than try them on. Seriously not a fan! (Image via Kleinanzeigenmarkdt Brautkleid)
My shoe criteria was simple: I wanted either an elegant bright red heel or I wanted a white/silver shoe with lots of sparkly bits. The catch was that the shoes couldn’t really be any higher than 2.5″ or my dress would fall too short.
The best of both worlds would be red and sparkly, but I don’t see that many red shoes around Switzerland so I wasn’t holding my breath. We walked through store after store (as I’ve done for a few months), and I didn’t want to try on any of the shoes. They were blah blah and more blah.
I was beginning to think that I would be forced to order some cheap, pretty shoes online, pay customs to receive them, and then hope they’d be comfortable enough to suffer through for the ceremony. That’s when I found these:
Aren’t they gorgeous?? Bright red, quirky designer heels with stunning Swarovski crystals that glitter to my heart’s content. I think I am in love.
The fit was puuurfect.
At 2.5″ the heels are just the same height as the ones I tried on with my dress. Excellent!
Fernando Pensato’s line of shoes in the store was to. die. for. Sooo original and so mouthwateringly Italian. All 100% leather. Magnifico! I tried on three similar pairs, one of which was more classic “bridal white,” but I just came back to the bright red shoes. They’ll be a hot splash of colour under my dress and amazing shoes to wear on dates and special occasions after the wedding.
The white beauties were delicate confections, but ultimately I wanted the punch of fiery red. (Image via Fernando Pensato)
I didn’t try this pair on, but love how funky they are! (Image via Fernando Pensato)
The price tag? It was in the $$$ realm. Honestly…this is the most expensive pair of shoes I have ever bought by far. But there is a silver lining…these babies were 30% off of $$$$! Score!
The lady at the store tried to convince me to buy a second really comfy pair, but at this price, as comfortable as the shoes are, my response was a firm “no.” *sigh*
So surprisingly, my tootsies are now set, aside from a dire need of a pedicure. Now it’s Mr. Funnel Cake’s turn to buy some wedding attire, or he’s walking down the aisle naked!
Have you found your dream shoes? Were they in your ideal budget?
