I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit to researching venues before I was engaged. Lots of them. I started right after I discovered Erin, our photographer. It was the one aspect of our wedding I was truly worried about. I had a look and feel in my mind that I just couldn’t shake. I wanted to get married outside, surrounded by our closest friends and family. I wanted to hear the wind swirl through trees and across open fields of grass, our only other onlookers members of the equine family.

It was proving hard to find in an area known for its beaches and golf courses. I also wanted to be able to revisit our venue and not find a comic-book convention.
I spent a good eight months searching before I found the one. I don’t remember how I discovered the Lange Farm, but I know I flew out of my office chair and along with me went my morning coffee. A coffee-stained skirt was a worthy price to pay. I quickly booked my mom a flight, and the three of us were set to visit the following Saturday.
As we turned off the main road, this is what I saw:

This was just their driveway. I couldn’t wait. Lange Farm was that precious nugget: large oak trees, open fields, beautiful natural lighting. I honestly didn’t think I’d find the setting I drooled over on blogs anywhere in our state, let alone close to where we live. After touring the property we sat down with Meghan to discuss availability. When we visited we were fourteen months out; surely there couldn’t be bookings. WRONG. Every Saturday in September was full except for ours. Meant to be? I don’t even know if I believe in “meant to be.” But I believed it that day. I put down our deposit as soon as my heart starting beating again. And with that we were set.
We’re getting married under the large oak at the southernmost end of the property.

And the reception will be inside their garden house with the cocktail hour in the courtyard in the back.

If things get a little too rowdy as the evening progresses, our older guests can relax in one of the rockers on the wraparound porch and say hello to one of the farm kitties!

We also got to see the garden house being prepped for a wedding. You mean Chiavari chairs come standard?! I guess they’ll have to do.

Some additional photos of the grounds:

Pictures on a swing? Sign me up! There’s even a barn on the property for photo ops as long as it’s not being used for another event.

Were you relieved to find to find out your venue was just as good if not better in person?
