A Sad Story About Shoes

May 31st, 2011 @ 3:30 pm by Mrs. High Wire

First off, heels are definitely out for the big day. It isn’t that I don’t like them! Quite the contrary, actually. I love a good heel.

But the fiancé is about three to four inches taller than I am, and we’d like to keep it that way for photos. So, no heels.

I thought I’d probably wind up with some nice bejeweled flats to keep it a little fancy and add a little vintage flair.

I’m also not opposed to sporting a cowboy boot for the big day. It IS a Texas wedding, y’all! (Yes, I most definitely use that word regularly.)

But then I started taking a little shy glance at some glittery fabulosities (yeah, I made that word up) that were popping up around the wedding blogosphere.

Eep! So shiny.

One weekend while out shopping with a friend, I kept picking up those really insanely sparkly ones and asking myself if I could be a bride sporting a shoe like this:

The answer? No, probably not. Heels are out, like I said, and the glitter definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the overall theme we are going for (relaxed, romantic, vintage).

But then, while strolling down the regular-priced shoe aisles at DSW on the way out (anyone else always make a beeline for the back-of-the-store sale racks?), I came across something!

Glittery! Flat, but still fancy! A little vintage inspired with the adorable gold bow! I like bows!! And, as a kicker, they had a very affordable wedding-shoe price tag of $49.50.

I’d like to say that they were SOLD and are now sitting peacefully in a shoebox at home, but they were out of my size. And then, when I went to purchase them online, they were sold out everywhere. Arg! The search continues.

Did you save or splurge on your wedding shoes?

Oh hon, you need to check out the Steve Madden Kinnetic flats. (http://www.stevemadden.com/item.aspx?id=51837) I mean, I may be biased because the gold ones were my wedding shoes, but they’re roughly the same price point, flat as can be, and offer the glitter you’re after.

I bought those very same flats! (The Enzo Angiolini ones). I ended up returning them because I found some sparkly jelly flats at Aldo that I liked a tiiiiny bit better. I got the Enzo Angiolini ones at Nordstrom Rack. Do you have any of those in your area? Can you try calling one to see if they have them and will ship? Good luck! They’re cute shoes!

I absolutely LOVE the back racks at DSW! I seem to find $10-$20 shoes that I just can’t resist!

I’m in the same boat… I wear heels often at school (I’m a teacher), but want to be shorter than my guy for the pictures.

My thought is that I’ll have heels on for a few shots where the shoes will show, then wear flats (maybe even flip flops) for the rest of the day.

Good luck with your shoe hunt!

I haven’t decided yet. I have some Toms that I was thinking about embroidering “Mrs” and wearing. My fiance is definitely wearing Toms. It’s outdoorsy so heels are sadly out. The other option is a pair of sandals with bows since I have kind of a mini bow theme going on. Good luck! I HATE IT WHEN THINGS ARE SOLD OUT ONLINE!

I love the glitterness of your inspiration! I hope you can find some in your size asap (seriously internet, how can you be out of stock, lame.)!

What size do you need? I work at DSW part time and we definitely had those Enzo’s. I can take a look and see if my store or any others around have them.

Pretty Ballerina also has a selection of sparkly ballerinas- and I can vouch for their comfiness!

I love love love glitter flats! It may be because I’m biased and am wearing glitter flats for my wedding hah. But here, in addition to the Steve Madden Kinnetic shoes are two other suggestions:

I was just going to say that I have seen lots of Steve Madden Sparkly flats lately, but a PP beat me to it!

I think these are simple and lovely:

ooo I hope it comes through for you… I love those little bows!

(oh, and I’m definitely on team save… granted, the $60 I spent was a good bit more than the $20 I typically spend on shoes, but still meager compared to a lot of other brides’ shoe budgets!)

Mine was same as your first picture, Sigerson Morrison for Target® Rocksie Jeweled Flats. I paid about $20 when it was sale on Dec 2008. Personally I didn’t want to pay a lot for shoes for just one night. I was so happy in the shoes and got great photos with them ;)

Sounds like we are in the same situation. Heels are out of the question for me as well because of the height issue. I would much rather him to stand over me than vice versa…lol! Guess I better go find me some glittery flats because yours are so pretty!

i’m splurging for sure! I’m completely obsessed with badgley mischka’s lyndee…. she is $215!!!! but we are planning a beach wedding so i will need a wedge, and my fiance is about 10 inches taller than I, so i high heel will be required. good luck with your search… have you tried zappos???? the lyndee in my size/color was out of stock everywhere i tried… and so i signed up for an email notification, which i received last week! she is back in stock! lol

I always head to the back racks first at DSW.
Those Vera Wang shoes are absolutely adorable. I might be in love with them.
