Table Label

May 20th, 2011 @ 10:45 am by Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

Table names are one of those details where the personality of the couple can really shine. I had lots (!) of ideas. Many of which Mr. PaC shot down quickly. Hrmmm.

yellow things - this one takes commitment! Also, I’d rather leave the thematic education to Sesame Street.

random things that we love - under apothecary bell jar cloches for a museum or terrarium feel. I just wanted an excuse to buy/rent 10+ bell jars.

Mrs. Balloons, Aspen, CO Age and Occupation: 24, Mass Communications graduate, Web Design student, & winery worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Engineer Engagement Date: July 10, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: The Sundeck at The Little Nell About Me: I'm a small-town Midwest girl planning an intimate mountaintop destination wedding complete with a huge DIY at-home reception. As an honors graduate fallen victim to the worst job market in history in my area, we're doing everything we can to still have the wedding of our dreams on a tighter budget. I currently enjoy working at a winery, but I'm lonnng overdue for a day job! I am: a big-time daydreamer, one of the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, and a lover of pretty paper and awesome fonts. I'm a girly girl who loves to get dolled up, but also a country girl who loves to get muddy and go 4-wheeler riding. I also enjoy singing in the car, boating, going to concerts, the History Channel, carnival food, and going to watch St. Louis Cardinals baseball with my handsome engineer.
About Mrs. Balloons

I told you how the term “rustic” is sort of the backbone behind our reception planning. Rustic means different things to different people. For us, I mentioned we want it to invoke vibes like earthy, vintage, woodsy, woodland, forest, shabby-chic. I realize that a lot of people think of a “rustic” theme as being “so last year.” I agree that it was definitely one of the most featured themes scattered across the blogosphere over the past year, but for me personally it never got old. It might be because I actually have never been to, seen pictures, or heard of a wedding featuring such ideas in the area I’m from.

I LOVED Miss Magic’s post on how even though some of these ideas seem so old and unoriginal to us bridal-blogging freaks, a lot of other people have never heard of them or seen them executed before. To be honest, I’m not worried if anyone thinks it’s an overdone concept because it encompasses who we are as a couple the best, and there will be plenty of personal and unique touches to make it our own. OK, done ranting on theme…on to our DIY rustic wedding signs!

Remember how I told you that there is an old house that we’ll be burning down on the land where our at-home reception will be held? I’ve decided to incorporate pieces of it into our reception! Behold the lovely, weathered siding boards:

Alcohollllllll…

One of the awesome things about our reception venue is that we get to select every single vendor instead of relying on a predetermined list. This is also one of the worst things, as I have come to learn, but today we are focusing on the good parts. Because it’s Friday. And only good things are allowed on Fridays.

The really good parts:

Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

After evaluating our guestbook options, we were at an impasse. We liked the idea of having something that we could display in our home after the wedding, but we also liked the idea of having a guestbook that would allow our friends and family to leave us more personalized messages than just a signature.  Instead of picking one over the other, we just decided to do both options!

For our decor item, as per Mr. Snow Cone’s suggestion, we’re incorporating our college sports teams. We’re planning to have a Notre Dame football and a Pitt basketball available for our guests to sign.

I love travel, photography, museums, learning German so I can speak with my mother-in-law, cooking (eating), cuddling, and I'm not afraid to try something new even if it terrifies me. My Swiss/Brazilian man and I are both down to earth people planning a traditional Catholic wedding in my hometown with some quirky cultural exceptions to reflect our different backgrounds. We look forward to celebrating with friends and family from all over the world in a classic, sophisticated fusion of heritage and love.

You Are Beloved

May 20th, 2011 @ 8:17 am by Mrs. Powder Puff

Hi hive! Long time no talk! For those of you who may not remember me, I’m Mrs. Powder Puff (obvs) and I blogged for Weddingbee back in 2008 until the mister’s and my July wedding in 2009. Well, time flies, and we’re coming up on our two year anniversary. Feels like the millionth… JUST KIDDING! Time flies when you’re having fun, and who better to have fun with than your husband!

Marriage has been a wonderful journey so far. There have been ups and downs, and I feel like my relationship with Mr. Powder Puff continues to evolve and grow stronger. I love him even more today than I did on the day I married him, believe it or not. :)

The reason I’m popping my old married face back in here is to share with you all something that Mr. Powder Puff and I experienced recently that was a lot of fun.

A few weeks ago our fantastic wedding photographer Shutter Sam contacted us to ask if we would like to be her guinea pigs for a new genre of photography she was trying to branch out into- Beloved Photography. Now, a Beloved session isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill photo sesh.

Mrs. Panther's Picture
Mrs. Panther, Atlanta GA/Westport CT Age and Occupation: 24, Web Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Music Recording Engineer Engagement Date: March 13, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: The Inn at Longshore About Me: I'm a total goofball who goes through life at a breakneck pace, trying not to knock anything over. I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
About Mrs. Panther

Our invitations went out on Saturday and I think most people have received them by now, so all I need to do is take some pictures and then I can share them with you! Hooray! In the meantime, let’s get back to the story of how they were born.

When we left each other, I was stuck in a bit of a rut with a peony background and whole lotta Feel Script. After staring at my designs for hours and just not loving them, I set them aside. After all, this was a year ago. I hadn’t even done the Save the Dates yet. It was time for a break.

I kept stalking the stationery blogs (my favorite are Oh So Beautiful Paper and Paper Crave), and I found myself more drawn to bold, text-focused designs. Sans-serifs! Starbursts! Drop shadows! These were a few of my early favorites:

I loved the poster-style layout of this invitation, and was instantly obsessed with the starburst:

Kristin from Twin Ravens Press sent me a sample of this one, and it’s even more amazing in person than in it is in the photo. I LOVED it:

Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

I haven’t mentioned our stance on the name-change game in all of the months I’ve been blogging on Weddingbee. I’m not quite sure why: it just never came up, I suppose. We’ve been wedding planning for such a long time now that we sort of just “forgot” about a few things that are going to be happening soon—making a decision about my surname being one of them.

I’m a primary school teacher. My kids this year are in year 1 and 2, so they range between the ages of 5-8, depending on when they started kindergarten. Kids that age are funny with teacher names. I think they grow up with so many older teachers that “Mrs” becomes something that they automatically associate with female teachers. That’s why, ever since I first started teaching, I’m used to being called “Mrs S.” It doesn’t matter how many times I correct them, or remind them that I’m not married yet and that I go by “Miss S”—they just instinctively call me whatever rolls off the tongue. They’re littlies, it happens. I go by all sorts of abbreviations; I’ve even been called “Mr. S” before—seriously.

Mrs. Cinnamon Bun's Picture
Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, Alberta Age and Occupation: 26, Stage Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre Technician Engagement Date: June 22, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Calgary Opera Centre About Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

Miss Snow Cone posted recently about searching for a guestbook idea, and she might as well have been reading my mind! (Well, apart from the sports jersey one. We are just not sports fans.) Yes, it is almost a month to the wedding, and I don’t have this sorted yet. I mentioned this worry to Mr Cinnamon Buns recently, and he said that we could stop by Michaels and pick one up! He knows how much I love that store, so it was probably a surprise when I said um… no. I said no to a trip to Michaels! This is especially worth noting as since someone totaled my car when it was innocently parked on the street, I have no way of getting to Michaels unless Cinnamon Buns drives me. I’ve booked myself in for a driving lesson to learn standard, but that’s not for a few more weeks.

The reason I said no to a Michaels trip? This:

If that is your bag, that’s great, but it ain’t my bag baby.

I’m Ready for My Close-Up…

May 19th, 2011 @ 4:22 pm by Mrs. Balloons

…especially now that we have a super-awesome videographer…eh, hmm, I mean cinematographer. We kinda sorta may have about tripled what we had budgeted for this super-awesome cinematographer, but I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am about having him at our wedding! This is another area that initially Mr. B and I were in major disagreement on. He didn’t think we really even needed a videographer to begin with, so you can imagine his shock and resistance when I told him the one that I was in love with was triple what we had budgeted. It took some convincing, let me tell you…but he slowly started to come around when I showed him how awesome it would be to have a video like the one below to show our friends and family at our at-home reception:

I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!

Before the Mane Event: BBC Part 2

May 19th, 2011 @ 4:02 pm by Mrs. Lioness

As I mentioned earlier, Sister Lioness coined the phrase “BBC” (a polite name for some people…better cry) to describe her goals for her rehearsal dinner slideshow. What she meant by this was that she really wanted her slideshow to tug at our guests’ heartstrings. She spent months collecting baby pictures from parents, deciding on music, and playing on iMovie. When we saw the final result, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Fortunately, Sister Lioness decided to post this slideshow on YouTube…so you get to watch it too! As long as you promise not to laugh at how nerdy I was as a kid. Promise? Well, okay…

Kids Versus No Kids: The Verdict

May 19th, 2011 @ 3:20 pm by Mrs. Pony

After deliberating for the better part of a day, the jury of the Ponies has reached a verdict in the landmark Kids v. No Kids case.

~~~
The jury members file into the jury box, refusing to make eye contact with anyone as they take their all too familiar seats. The room is tense with anticipation while the ever disinterested judge yearns for this case to finally be over.
The Court: The jury has returned to open court in the case of 11 W 101, Kids v. No Kids. Have you reached a unanimous verdict, jurors?
Miss Pony: Yes we have, Judge.
The Court: All right. I accept your verdict. I will now read from Jury Form A.
