Mrs. Elephant's Picture
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store Manager Engagement Date: March 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: The Tribute Golf Club About Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
About Mrs. Elephant

It wasn’t just sun, sand, food, and drinks for the Elephants while on our honeymoon in Mexico. Excellence Playa Mujeres had several daytime activities as well as nighttime shows.

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon 050 050

Fire show

Every night when housekeeping would turn down our bed, they left a list of the activities for the next day. We watched a cooking class, took a tour of the kitchen (where I was spotted by a Weddingbee reader!) and Mr. E tried his hand at rifle shooting.

The targets were so small

This was how far away you had to stand back to aim

Sadly Mr. E didn’t win the rifle shooting (and I really could have used another massage!). Speaking of massages, we had a couples’ massage by the ocean which was so relaxing. After the massage we enjoyed champagne with chocolate covered strawberries and watched the waves roll in.

We went off of the property twice during the week. Once was to take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres for souvenir shopping.

And the second time was for our excursion to the Xcaret ecological park in Playa del Carmen.

I researched online before our trip and booked something that Mr. E and I have always wanted to do: swim with dolphins!

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon Dolphin dolphin

We got to pose for pictures, and do tricks with the dolphins which included the foot push, had them sing to us and gave them belly rubs.

Once we dried off and paid an arm and a leg for the photos and DVD of the dolphin swim, we headed to the wine cellar caves for a wine tasting.

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon 193 193

Our wine tasting ended up being a personal one since the other group of 6 was delayed at the dolphin swim. We had food pairings with 5 different Mexican wines.

The 5 wines we tasted

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon 197 197

The second course included a Carpaccio of Red Snapper and Salmon with Chardonnay

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon 200 200

The fourth pairing was duck with mole sauce and Shiraz

Elefantes en México - The Activities : wedding dallas honeymoon 202 202

Mr. E is a fan of the dry wines

And there you have it. A honeymoon which was a perfect balance of relaxation and activities. We really enjoyed getting away for a week, and most of all spending time together as husband and wife.

Are there any activities or excursions that you will be doing on your honeymoon?

How fun! Isla Mujeres was one of the contenders for our honeymoon and it looks beautiful! Due to hurricane season we chose Costa Rica (which will be rainy instead) and are planning lots of activities along with lots of pool/ocean time. I would love to swim with dolphins though!

I loved Xcaret!!! The underground river is awesome (but cold lol). I went there a couple of years ago with a group of friends. My fiancee and I are thinking about taking our honeymoon to that same area Riviera Maya. We are trying to decide where to stay now.

Fire shows are the best. My BM and I say that’s what we’re going to be when we grow up :)
Your honeymoon looks like it was amazing!

Was it totally weird to be recognized by a reader? Other Bees, has it happened to you? Did you love that someone told you they read you, or would you rather they not say anything? Just curious!

Hi - I second Blue Moon’s request for suggestions! This is a top contender and you are definately swaying me. Can you tell us info on the dolphin experience? I have no idea if this is something we can fit into our budget…but I would love to try and make it :)

@Blue Moon: Our favorite restaurants were Spice (the only one we did twice, but that was the hibachi. Not sure how the other part is), Basmati & Chez Isabelle. We enjoyed room service for breakfast or the buffet.

I would arrange for transportation from the airport to the hotel before hand. We had our round trip set up before and made things very easy once we got through customs.

If you PM me, I’ll be happy to answer any other questions on Excellence :)

@kellyinpurple: For me personally, it was actually really cool! It’s so nice to know that there are people out there that read the blog and follow along with our journey.

@Leia: The dolphins was by far our favorite memory. It was a little pricey at $358 (which included entrance into the park and the dolphins) but was something that we decided to save for our honeymoon. The instructors spoke in English (for us and another couple) and Spanish (for the other swimmers) and made sure that we all had time to play the games with the dolphins. For us it was a once in a lifetime type of thing.

Wow Mrs. E, that looks so awesome. I’d love to swim with dolphins, except, well, I can’t swim :( However, just thinking of all the food you ate and the massages and room service. Dang, evrrythan’ looks so good!!

I am SO jealous of the swimming with dolphins. My childhood dream was to be a trainer at Sea World.

OMG DOLPHIIIIIIIINS! Sorry, I just get so excited. Would you recommend Delphinus? Did you get much free time/one on one with them, or did it feel rushed?

@cc226: Hey!! I hope you and your husband had a wonderful rest of your honeymoon!!

@Miss Bunting: I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I thought Delphinus was really great. Online it breaks it down to 15 mins of instructions and 45 mins in the water with the Dolphins, but I think we only spent 5 or 10 mins with the instructions.

Our instructor did a really good job of speaking in English and Spanish so everyone could understand. We did group time (as a group of 6) to just be able to pet the dolphins as they swam around us. Then he would break it down for individuals (like the foot push) and pairs for the tricks (like the belly rub you see us doing). Mr. E and I didn’t feel very rushed and it felt like we had more than 45 mins in the pool.

Hope that helps! :)

Look at those little animal cracker-like shooting targets….they’re so cute :) I love that you two did a nice balance of adventure vs mellower activities…it looked like a perfect honeymoon. :)
Ps - I heart Mexico. The end.

Aw - everything looks so fun! Love the picture of you being pushed by the dolphin…fun! When I swam with the dolphins years back, they had me hold onto the fin to get my ride (I think it was because I was small and the dolphin could handle my weight versus my parents, who were instructed to do the foot push): now I want to foot push! That looks so fun.

I can’t wait for our honeymoon…
