Get It DONE!

June 1st, 2011 @ 12:59 pm by Mrs. Waffle

Ladies, I would like to take this moment to let you know how important and liberating it feels to get all of your wedding projects and to-dos done early. If I didn’t have the amazing Magical Alie kicking my booty and giving me a deadline, I can safely say that my usual procrastinating self would be knee deep in hot glue, paint, spreadsheets and tears.

Instead, I am sipping a glass of wine and enjoying some final moments of peace before the whirlwind of guests blow in from the four corners of the earth. Our house is clean and no trace of wedding exists…just me and the mister. With wedding projects out of the way we are able to enjoy our last few days STRESS FREE (except for the forecast of scattered thunderstorms).

So, there it is.

The best advice I can give to all of you lovely brides to be is to “GET IT DONE” by the Sunday before your wedding. Give yourself a hard deadline and stick to it. It’s not easy to do. Trust me. I kind of had a meltdown in the middle of my apartment one day and was splayed out like a toddler in a tantrum, but it was totally worth it because now I am feeling calm, relaxed and ready to take on this wedding weekend!

Will you set a hard deadline to get things done for your wedding day? Married hive members: were you able to stick to your timeline?

OMG you’re amazing. Literally, my idol. Officially as of now (although my wedding is over a year away) that’s my goal: the Sunday before.

I’m picturing frantic last minute prep and THEN coming home after the wedding / honeymoon to a crazy messy house.

How did you make sure that you didn’t forget anything?

This is my goal too! Or at least get everything stress inducing done the Sunday before. I want to enjoy those last few days with wine in my hand!

i’m almost done booking all of my vendors and the wedding is May 6, 2012. I’m waiting a while longer to book the makeup/hair and flowers.

i have two wedding dresses hanging in my closet, three pairs of shoes, a veil, and my jewelry.

save the dates are almost ready to print. narrowed it down to two invitation options.

it feels good to cross items off the wedding timeline checklist under “four to five months before.”

and everything color coded.

That’s awesome!!!! Congratulations! I’m actually going to go a little crazy and try to have everything done a whole month before my wedding. I know it sounds nuts… but I’m a teacher so starting next week I have 3 months with a part time job and a few vacations… but other than that it’s going to be a wedding planning/ DIYing extravaganza!! I’m so excited to focus on the wedding plans.

that is AMAZING! I would loooove to be able to do this, but with our planning from afar, I’m not sure it will be possible - I don’t get to town until the Wednesday before the wedding and I fear that little projects like OOT bags, etc. will be waiting for me… =(

Enjoy the stress free time! We had a deadline to finish everything by the Tuesday before our wedding (since that is when we were turning it over to the venue) and it was so nice to be done with it.

I had a goal like that too. Didn’t stick to it, though. Was still DIY-ing the night before. Plus our house was a crafty mess when we got back. Kudos to you, though. You must feel really wonderful! Hope you have a beautiful thunderstorm free wedding day!

This is currently my goal as well. I’m working my butt off this month so I only have a few things to do in the last month. We’ll see how well it goes. I’m so glad you’re able to relax right now :).

That’s my goal too. I have the big things done. The hardest part is finding my shoes. Who knew?

I definitely agree with this advice. I didnt have everything done, and it was NOT GOOD. It would have been so much easier if I had just cut a few projects or been more proactive about finishing them earlier. You live and you learn :)

Get it girl!!! This is what I’m working hard to do! We are just under 4 months and within that time frame we are moving, doing a family vacation, and have about 5 weddings so we’re pushing, pushing, pushing to have everything wrapped up ASAP! We made a list and it actually isn’t too terrible so I’m feeling pretty good right now!!

@kate02121: I made myself a looooong checklist!
@oatmealpie: Magic Alie (my friend that gave me the deadline) came and took it all away on Monday. Since I knew she was coming for all of it, I HAD to have it done.

I so want that to be me! I want the wedding projects done by the time we get to Vancouver. I’ve got a list going in Google Docs ranking the difficulty and importance of everything on my to do list and if anything is too difficult and not so important it is getting slashed off the list if I run out of time.

I didn’t set a deadline, but I knew I wanted to be done making things before my bridesmaids got into town the Thursday before. And somehow I got it all done!
