About Mrs. Funnel Cake

Lieutenant Funnel Cake

June 1st, 2011 @ 1:49 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

Upon hearing the news that I had completed my wedding ensemble (unless I do find a nice bolero/jacket) with the purchase of my red shoes, Mr. Funnel Cake admitted that he needs to start thinking about his own duds for the wedding. He hasn’t acquired anything yet! Obviously someone is not as excited as I was about picking out his wedding outfit.

Over the weekend, we visited his parents for his mother’s birthday, and Brother Funnel Cake quizzed us on his responsibilities for the wedding. (Cute!) Everyone was talking about what Mr. Funnel Cake and Brother Funnel Cake should wear, when the idea came up about Mr. FC wearing his military uniform.

Circa 2008: FC actually claims this is one of the ooonly photos he likes of himself.

Yes, Mr. FC is in the Swiss military, and actually if he wore his uniform it would be pretty unique. He is a lieutenant after all. Certainly none of my brothers will ever wear a Swiss uniform when they marry!

I’m not sure how serious Mr. Funnel Cake was about the uniform idea, but it seemed like it was dawning on him for the first time ever that this even is an option. He asked me if I would even want him to wear it, and I reminded him that I do think he’s handsome in uniform. Heck, put him in his green army garb before he goes parachuting, and I always have trouble restraining myself from tearing his clothes off. Something about that green undershirt gets me every time…mmmm.

OK, to be honest, I also exclaimed it would be JUST like he’s Prince William in his uniform and I’m Kate in my princess dress!! (I couldn’t help it.) That probably won’t help persuade him to wear the uniform, and I’m betting that he’ll end up in a black suit, but we’ll see. Wearing his uniform would certainly be cheaper!

Is your man wearing a uniform (or other non-tux/suit) outfit to your wedding?

You know I really hate most uniforms, but seriously this is nice. I like the nuetral grays, it really does look great!

my fiance also does not want to wear is uniform. I would have been ok with him wearing his Marines uniform but i’m not too into his Army dress uniform. I’m sure he will also just end up wearing your run of the mill suit although he keeps saying that him and his best man are going to get powder blue and canary yellow tuxes like in dumb and dumber…my response was that I will leave him at the alter :)

Would it be unique to your Swiss guests as well? Isn’t military time mandatory for young men in Switzerland? Given that, what do Swiss grooms normally wear?

Uh, he has to wear that uniform, ladies love men in uniform! And it’s way cooler than a suit.

My FI and I met in the Army so the revolving joke is, “You can both wear your uniforms in the wedding”. Ummmmmm…….No!!! I won’t be wearing a uniform for sure and he really doesn’t have an interest to wear his. He wants to wear a black tux but I’m trying to convince him to wear grey.

My fiance is a pilot in the AF, so we definitely toyed with the uniform option for quite some time. However, once we picked out our venue/style (a southern mansion) and toyed with the idea that his little brother would be the only one not in uniform (the other three GM are AF as well), we decided to go with grey suits.

With that said, I say go with the uniforms! If it would have been a fit for us I would have done it!

Although (my opinion is) it doesn’t really fit with our Sunday afternoon picnic vibe wedding, my fiance is soooo excited about wearing his Marine Corps dress blues. He’s been out for a while, but I guess there’s no rule against it. He says that he’s never worn them before for a happy occasion (only funerals) so this is a perfect time. I say, if it makes him happy, go for it.

@Sking: Haha, actually the uniform is probably not that unique in Switzerland, and Mr. FC said he would probably only want to wear it if he knew nobody from Switzerland is coming at all. (He doesn’t seem to like flashing any Swiss military things in his own country).

@u_c2moore: Haha, we are opposite… he wants a grey tux but I’m pushing for black. Har, har about people think you’ll both wear your uniforms! I don’t think any uniform could keep me from a big poofy dress. :)

@Cindle: aw, that’s too bad it doesn’t work out for you guys. I imagine a lineup of men in uniform would make some preeetty hot photos, but if there’s one guy not wearing them it would make your BIL look like your FH! :P

@Debra: Ahh I looove the marine blues. They are so nice! I actually wish Mr. Fc’s uniform was a darker colour. For some reason the light grey doesn’t hit the spot for me. It’s really nice your FH can make a very nice happy memory out of his uniform!

He should wear his uniform! It’s so dapper. Tell him there’s no room in the budget for tux rentals ;).

@Usuki: Das ist unglaublich lustig! Jeden Morgen 4:30?? Wenn es so früh ist, ich werde ihn fragen, ob er ein Foto machen kann, weil ich zu faul bin. ;)

@Miss Biscuit: Would you believe there are actually NO tux rentals in Switzerland. It like… doesn’t exist. So it’s either fly back and forth to the US for tux fittings (oh wait he doesn’t want a tux) or buy something here. You can figure what he wants to do. :)

That’s awesome, I totally vote for uniform. My man aged out by the time he moved back here so he never had to do it. But I did have my Dad wear his US Navy uniform to walk me down the aisle.
