Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

Schuhe. Zapatos. Scarpe. Chaussures. обувь. Kutsu. Or you may know them as…

Shoes it or Lose It: Apathy is Afoot : wedding san francisco shoes Shoes shoes

Call me a bad bride but no matter how I say it, I just can’t really get into shoe shopping for the wedding. I find this to be particularly peculiar because I really do love shoes. Back before we got engaged I’d spend a hefty chunk of each paycheck on funky flats or sessy stilettos—so WHAT GIVES?!

I look at sites like Zappos and Endless and, while both are excellent sources (with awesome return policies), I find myself completely…uninspired. I mindlessly click through the pairs of shoes in hopes that something will jump out and say “BUY ME! BUY ME! YOUR FEET NEED ME!” But nothing happens. Nothing. No desire to keep looking. No excitement. Just the occasional, “Oh, those aren’t terrible.”

Here’s what I do know and perhaps this is contributing to my apathy.

In my everyday life, when I’m not wearing cute flats or flip-flops, my taste in shoes tends to gravitate towards high heels (4″ and up). This normally isn’t an issue except, for whatever reason, I just don’t want to be taller than Mr. Seal on our wedding day. I’m 5’8″ and the Sealman is 5’10″, which means if I rocked a 4″ pair of heels I’d be hovering over him. I think my reservations on this front mostly have to do with my tendency to bend my knees when I’m taking pictures with people shorter than I am (sonotcute).

Anyhow, here are some “too high” shoes I don’t hate so you can get an idea of my taste:

Shoes it or Lose It: Apathy is Afoot : wedding san francisco shoes Badgley badgley

Badgley Mischka “Babette” (4.5’’) Sandal via Nordstrom

Shoes it or Lose It: Apathy is Afoot : wedding san francisco shoes Brianat brianat

Rose Gold Brian Atwood Leather Platform (4.75″) Pumps via Saks (Also seen as the rightful subjects of Miss Sparkler’s adoration)

Shoes it or Lose It: Apathy is Afoot : wedding san francisco shoes Badgley01 badgley01

Badgley Mischka (4″) “Babette” Heels via Zappos

These are only about 3″ which is a bit more do-able.

Shoes it or Lose It: Apathy is Afoot : wedding san francisco shoes Claudia claudia

Claudia Ciuti ’Janine’ d’Orsay Pump via Nordstrom

Proof I can get excited about wedding day shoes: I am totally coveting Mrs. Tartlet’s Louboutins.

Really, I think there is a simple solution to the above issue. Say I do fall in love with a pair of super high heels, I could always join the “Two-Shoe Bride” club and invest in some adorable flats for the pictures and for the reception.

But I guess I should first fall in love with one pair before deciding I’m capable of finding two. I just don’t know, hive. Maybe I’m not getting into the whole bridal shoe shopping experience because I haven’t actually tried any on? I’m totally a hands-on gal and this searching online through 2D images thing just isn’t doin’ it for me.

Anyhow, next time I check in on the shoe front I promise to have tried on at least three pairs! I really think that will help facilitate my excitement.

Yay?

Did you have a hard time getting into the shoe hunt? Where did you find your shoes?

I looked and looked and looked forever for shoes. It was one of the toughest decisions. And at first I didn’t think I wanted to spend any money on them. Since I usually cringe at spending more than $50 on, well, anything.

But I had come across these gold sparkly louboutin flats again and again. And I loved them. I coveted them. I wanted them. But they were so ridiculously expensive. Fast forward like 5 months, and I had just received a bonus, and I was just like you know what? Screw it. I’m going to spend $$$ on shoes for my wedding. Best. Decision. Ever. Also…you can find awesome cute flats. It just takes scouring.

Also…definitely go try them on. And don’t think of them as bridal shoes. Think of them as a new pair of kickass shoes you want. Ones that are super pretty. I’m sure once you start trying them on, you’ll get more into it!

I ended up buying a pair of shoes way early, deciding I didn’t like them, then buying a second pair. Maybe it’s the lack of color that has you feeling blah? Colored wedding shoes are hot right now, plus they’re way easier to wear again. I ended up with a pair of blue beauties!

I looked everywhere and could not find the perfect pair. Too tall, too flat, uncomfortable, etc. I ended up customizing my own pair at ninashoes.com and they are just right and comfortable enough that I probably won’t need to be a 2 shoe bride.

Omg, I love your shoe inspiration! If those Claudia Ciuti shoes were in red I would be all over them, price be damned.

Yaaaay love the first word auf Deuuuutsch. :) And I love shoes. Love this post Miss Seal…. even if it is about the difficult bear of finding cute short not-to-high heels.

But darnit, it’s possible! I searched for shoes for months before walking into a store I’d never been in with a friend and finding my lovelies, so have faith! Before that I was lusting over tall heels and totally blah about all the shoes in the world.

I am still still still searching. My soon to be Mr. is 6′4″ and I’m only 5′6″. I am getting married in the grass, so can’t wear stiletto’s, and also, my feet don’t allow something too high. I am hoping for some height in a more stable wedge, shoes that are funky and/or colorful. Nothing too traditional. If anyone stumbles on a pair in their travels, I too would love a suggestion!

Why don’t you just wear cute flats? A lot of brides on here have an they look so cute. You can get your dress hemmed to that height easily enough.

I’m planning on wearing a pair of Jessica Simpson “Oscar” pumps. DSW has some Satin ones in Blush, similar to the pink-y ones you’ve listed. I’m 5′7″ and my FI is 5′9″ so I put my heel cap at 3″ for the wedding (usually I’m a 5″ heel kinda girl). I don’t want to look like an Amazon woman next to my FI! The Oscar’s were perfect for me and pretty comfy. Good luck!

I was apathetic too. I finally broke down and bought some BM’s for 20% off from endless.

They really, really are just shoes. Almost no one will see them. Choose a pair that will be comfortable for more than an hour and that are sassy. Done.

Consider a wedge if you’re getting married on grass. Will give you height without the sinking into the lawn.

I spent 3 hours at the outlet mall today looking for shoes. EVERY store, no price limit. I found NOTHING! Well I lie, I found one pair that I thought were OK, till I saw they were over $200, I did have a price limit for the shoe just being OK, and that price limit was well under $200. I am actually here on wedding bee avoiding doing shoe shopping online, there has to be something out there!

ladies…ladies…ladies…

Please keep in mind the hem of your gown. Ive seen so many women take off their shoes during a reception and ruin the front of their wedding gown. wear something you know you can walk in all evening.

Adding to a basic shoe a pair of glamorous shoe clips can be the solution. They are removable and can be customized on the right color just for you.

@NauticalBride2011: Oh my goodness, I think I totally know exactly which sparkly Louboutin flats you are talking about! LUCKY GIRL! And you’re right, sometimes that extra $$$ is worth so much more than money!

@AuroraRose2011: I *love* the super bold colored shoes but I’m trying to compliment my soft, romantic color scheme! Gah! But you could totally be right…some bright colors make me a bit more excited.

@Miss Funnel Cake: Your shoes are totally adorable!!! Great find for sure…hopefully I’ll be as lucky ;)

@xtatic1: I’ve heard about customizing Ninas…I’m definitely going to have to check it out—you’re like the fourth person who has told me to look into it!

@Miss Pony: Thanks lady! I totally share your “price be damned” sentiment at this point :P

@ch7tina7: It’s like we have opposite problems! Ahhh, being a bride is so tough. @Honeycake gave a helpful suggestion—maybe wedges? Grass is so tricky!!!

@KMA;@Rachael: Flats only aren’t out of the question but I swoon over the heel pictures! I guess I could pose with the high heels and just rock flats for everything else—then I wouldn’t have to worry about my hem. Gah.

@Aure: Thanks for the suggestion! I’m a big fan of Jessica Simpson’s shoes so I’ll definitely have to check those out :D

@Miss Biscuit: Good choice. Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I really do like most of BM’s shoes—they’re all so feminine and perrrrty.

@Mrs. Earrings: Aren’t they!? They remind me of something a ballerina would wear!

@Cant pick a date: I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!

my groom is 4-5 inches taller than me with his shoes on, so i don’t have a lot of room either when it comes to wearing heels. but i will ABSOLUTELY wear heels on my wedding day. i will be just slightly shorter than him. and my shoes? i have them already. no ring yet, but i have my shoes. lol. i have had them for about 7 months already…i special ordered a pair of louboutins with a baby blue insole as my “something blue” and i have gotten quite good at “strassing” louboutins myself. so those are my plans for my shoes. i haven’t chosen my crystal color yet, but i don’t think that’s wise to do before i find my dress ;) good luck in your search!

I’m in exactly the same situation! I’m only four inches shorter than my fiance, and I always gravitate toward huge heels. I’m trying to reconcile myself to kitten heels from Capparo. At least we’ll be comfortable in our smaller heels, I guess!

Sadly I’m right there with you, Seal. Love heels but not sure about the height proportions for pictures and such, and have been looking at shoes online without feeling that “ooh, these!” moment. I was just thinking the other day that perhaps I need to do some in-person shopping in order to make it a little more ‘real’ or something. (I should also probably buy a dress first, but that’s another story altogether!) Looking foward to seeing what you find!

Keep in mind that many men’s formal shoes have a large heel. I swear DH’s shoes had a 1.5″-2″ heel on them. So factor that in when you are making your shoe decisions.

If you are wearing them on grass–you might want to look into something like this http://thesolemates.com/

1) You didn’t tell me you wanted pink shoes! Or maybe that is just what you can find for pics…

2) I say go with flats for both. I don’t know if you’ll be happy being taller than Mr.Seal in all your ceremony pics. Orrr get cute tall ones for pics with the girls :)

3) Try report, sam edelman, torry burch (some of my favorite flats for work. . may not work for wedding). Also NORDSTROMMMMMMMM (my most favorite place for shoes!)

Ok, I’m going to stop distracting myself from work now.
