First, no, I am not pregnant. Nor is this post about babies.
This is about how Mr. Pony and I recently expanded our family with two kittehs!
Meet George and Gracie (This picture happened without my intervention.)
As if wedding planning weren’t making us crazy enough, the Ponies decided to adopt two crazy-ass kittehs a few weeks ago. They were practically fully grown when we brought them home, but we have managed to pretty much double their weight in the short time we’ve had them (spoiled piggies).
We adopted them from a feline rescue group and their history is mostly unknown. We are pretty sure that they are litter mates since they are practically identical in size and coloring, except that George is slightly darker and their white spots differ. Despite being brother and sister, their temperaments could not be more different.
George is laid back. Nothing bothers him. He was immediately comfortable with us and his new home. Oh, and he is the king.
You are my bitches. Now pet me.
Gracie is easily excitable, but not always in a good way. She’s still getting accustomed to living with us and doesn’t quite trust us yet. When she is sleeping or trying to get food, however, she can be the sweetest thing. And she has the softest fur ever!
Distrusting eyes
Both kittehs are already super spoiled with daily treats and a custom-made (by Mr. Pony) cat throne in our living room.
Their likes include chasing each other, watching birds out the window, getting into every nook and cranny of our house, licking my phone (why?!), and being ridiculously cute:
I don’t know why she was licking her brother, but it was so cute!
Even Mr. Pony, the self proclaimed cat hater, is loving our new additions and has so much fun playing with and (occasionally) antagonizing them.
Mr. Pony and I have been working as a team not only to train them (no scratching! no eating my Lucky Charms! no escaping!), but we also share the responsibilities of cat rearing, such as feeding, grooming, and scooping the litter box. In a way, caring for our new kittehs has solidified that in a few months we are really becoming the Pony family, not just a married couple. And that feels good.
Have you and your partner adopted a pet together? Did it change your relationship for the better or worse? Is it crazy to adopt pets when planning for a wedding?
