Adventures in Teeth Whitening

June 2nd, 2011 @ 12:51 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

I used to have lovely white teeth! A little cavity prone, yes, but they were fairly white. All that changed when we moved to the UK—I don’t know what it was, or how it happened, but after a few years of living abroad, my smile is a lot yellower than it was before.

I’m not one for expensive beauty treatments, but I have used Crest Whitestrips in the past with good effects, except now I faced one small problem: they don’t stock them in Australia. Since I knew I wouldn’t have the time or moolah to get a fancy dentist whitening, I invested in some everyday whitening toothpaste and my very own Aussie based tooth whitening 5-day system. The ones I chose were from Clever White, who advertised at up to seven shades lighter … in five days.

Five days have come and gone, and I decided to document the process though it all . Tell me what you think? (Please excuse the non-made-up/end-of-teaching-day face.)

I noticed a bit of a difference, but nothing super spectacular. Here was the final shot, after five days of half-hour gel tray-treatment.

I reckon it might’ve lightened them a shade or two. I guess I’ll keep going with the whitening toothpaste and see if it helps, but at least I’ve done my part to make a difference pre-wedding-day.

Did you go on a teeth whitening adventure of your own? How’d it work for you?

I’ve never found whitening toothpastes to do much. They prevent more than they destain. Use white strips every day if you want to see a real difference!

Did you start drinking a lot of tea when you moved to the UK? Thats what happened to me…
I’m hoping someone will have some great recommendations for whitening systems that actually work but aren’t too expensive.

Psh. I see a difference. Not dramatic but there IS a noticeable one :) *shields self from blinding white* I like it!

If you want to do more… would the white strips be available to buy on a site like Amazon? Not sure they deliver to Australia :)

I think your teeth look beautiful right now!

I can’t see a huge difference but your teeth looked pretty white to begin with - I don’t think you have anything to worry about! I’ve heard good things about Arm & Hammer baking soda + peroxide toothpaste. I just bought it yesterday I am convinced after using it for a day and a half, that my teeth are already a tiny bit whiter. Not sure if that’s really the case but I’ll keep with it!

It’s hard to see a difference, but it doesn’t matter anyway because you have such a beautiful smile!

I’ve totally been wondering if I should do this. I’m such a coffee addict!! My teeth are DARK! :(

No lie - our Crest White Strips are in the mail to us as we speak. :-) We have engagement pictures coming up soon, so I thought it was a good time to test it out. We tried gel trays before, and sadly I didn’t notice any difference at all for either of us. Whether or not your gel trays worked, your smile is gorgeous!

We started using whiting tooth paste (Crest 3D) and I’m getting a tray molded/fitted for teeth whitening tonight at the dentists!

I admit it. We both whitened our smiles before the big day. Did it matter in pictures? Well, I’m not really sure it did. But we did it anyway. :)

I think they look great to start out with. I’ve used the 3D whites before and it was actually very painful… be careful if your teeth are sensitive.

My mom works for a dentist so I plan on getting my teeth professionally whiten before the wedding (for free.)

I think your teeth look good!

I never thought about doing this but am now intrigued.

How many strips of the crest white strips did you have to use to get some white sparklers?

I think they look fairly sparkly white in the picture. I am going to be using the crest white strips, toothpaste, and mouth rinse. I figure the triple whammy will give my teeth the sparkley look I desire.

I can see a difference.

The UK does shit to people’s teeth. Seriously.
