Here Comes the Bride

June 2nd, 2011 @ 3:13 pm by Mrs. Balloons

Do you remember the processional music that was played for the last few weddings that you attended? I do not. The last few weddings that I attended, I was walking down the aisle as a bridesmaid and I still do not remember what was playing. Nonetheless, music is important to us, and our journey to find a ceremony musician was not an easy one. We knew that we wanted someone to perform live, so I began the search for talented musicians in the Aspen area. My search turned up some great musicians, none of whom were in our budget. After rigorous hours of searching, Mr. Balloons and I decided it might be easier to first figure out what kind of musician we even wanted. I’ve always thought that pianos were nice at weddings, but hauling one to the top of a mountain might be a bit of a challenge, subsequently resulting in plenty more $$$ if anyone were even up to the challenge.

There were a few guitar players that we came across. Nice, but not quite what we were looking for…

But at last, we finally found the winner. The wonderful, beautiful harp. So romantic, so ethereal, so perfect. Oh how I swooned…until I saw the price tag.

After I got the first three quotes, I was devastated. It was SO expensive for less than an hour of playing! I had my heart set though, so I kept searching. Finally we found one that was close to our price range, and we booked immediately. According to the wedding coordinator at our venue, the harp even fits inside the gondola! Hive, I can’t even describe how excited I am about our ceremony music. It gives me the butterflies when I envision us walking down the aisle to the beautiful sounds coming from those lovely strings.

How was your search for ceremony music? Have you made a decision yet?

So exciting! Glad you found something that worked for you.

The last wedding I went to just played a variety of current country music while people mingled and before they took their seats. It was epically amazing for me, since I love country music.

I love the sound of a harp, it will be so dreamy at your wedding! I think we’ll class it up with some dj music, not fancy, but it’ll work for us. What to play…no idea. We have time. Maybe.

The harp is going to be so beautiful! We’re going the DJ route too, but we’re picking songs that are still meaningful to us.

Snap! My FH is a musician and luckily for us he has a friend who is a harpist and has offered to play during the ceremony. I am incredibly excited!

I think few instruments say “wedding” like a harp - I’m sure it will be lovely on your big day

I love that first line, “Do you remember the processional music at any wedding…”

haha, nope!

@joy2011: Lol, that’s a good point! Unless it was like the Star Wars theme tune or something, you’d remember that.

I had a cello and violinist. It was wonderful. No one remembers what I walked down to, but everyone remembers how lovely the music was. Have fun finding your song!

How very romantic to use a harp! We used a recording of Pachelbel’s Canon which was decided pretty much last minute. I had told my friend the Dj to use whatever was instrumental but not too cheesy and then the night before the wedding my then FI was suddenly appalled that I hadn’t asked for Canon. This was refreshingly surprising because I assumed he just didn’t care. I had to call my friend the morning after just before getting ready and Voila. It was perfect.

oooooh! How beautiful!!! Is it the look or the sound of the harp that you’re going for? If its just the sound, then hauling an ipod with harp-like tunes might be easier to get up the mountain. but still - SOOO pretty!
