We recently held a low-key couple’s shower for our dear friends M and J who will wed this coming weekend. Our lovely friend A co-hosted with us and helped me plan and execute our Fiesta themed stock the bar party. This was actually the first shower I’ve ever planned and thrown (outside of assisting with my very own bridal tea) and I was pleased as (sangria) punch that it came together so smoothly.
A created an adorable Evite to send to all of the guests. We chose to go this route to keep the vibe casual yet festive and I loved the way it turned out:
Being from San Antonio I easily had the decor covered and barely bought anything new. My sweet mother-in-law hooked me up with a huge box of festive pinatas, wreaths, paper goods and the like. I only ended up purchasing a few maracas for the kiddos to play with and the awesome drink dispensers which I’m positive I’ll be getting a lot of use out of in the future.
We chose our libations to stay in line with the theme and made sure to have plenty of Mexi-Coke and assorted Mexican beers in tubs on ice. I found an amazing white sangria recipe to fill on of the beverage dispensers and Mr. L whipped up a mega batch of Mexican Martinis for the other one. I think we went through a total of 5 gallons of the brews before the day was done!
By choosing to hold our fiesta in the late afternoon we were free to serve a variety of finger foods as opposed to a full meal. I much prefer this type of set up for a casual affair as I feel it is much more conducive to conversation and mingling amongst guests. Sweet A, my cohost, made those amazing empanadas FROM SCRATCH. And they were so so good. She also whipped up a to-die-for tres leches cake that we basically attacked before any photos could be taken.
The happy couple ended up receiving a massive amount of booze to stock their new home bar. I can’t wait until they return from their honeymoon and invite us all over to enjoy some of it.
The mister and I are stoked to head out bright and early tomorrow morning to see these two crazy kids get hitched this weekend.
Mere and Jess - we love you and can’t wait to see ya in Iowa! Much love.
These pretty pretty pictures were taken by the very hip and supremely talented Tarrant Photography. Thanks, Clint, you’re a rock star!
