Super Size the Pom Love

Back when I first began searching for inspiration photos for our wedding I found myself swooning over initial wreaths like the one above. I love the simple symmetry of the wreath and it seemed like such a simple DIY project that would pack a lot of visual punch.

The only downside was that the inspiration pics I was coming across all had more a rustic elegant feel that doesn’t really gel well with the overall handmade modern theme of our wedding. That is, until I found this wonderfully fluffy and colorful one from Blue Bird Vintage.

Since we want our wreath to take center stage at our ceremony, we’ve had to beef up the size to about 3 feet. Yup, our wreath will be big enough to hula hoop in, and it’s going to be fabulous. Well, at least I hope it’ll be fabulous because so far, this is all I have done.

Mr CC and I have been tag teaming our wreath this week and we have a big bin full of poms with a mountain of yarn waiting to be spun into fluffy balls. It’s been slow going but it’s pretty easy work to do sitting in front of the TV.

The only problem now is trying to figure out what to put in the middle. Do you have any ideas? I’m thinking some sparkly initials like these from BHLDN, but I’m not completely sold…

Wow, that is going to take a lot of poms to fill! But it is super cute! I like the letter idea for the center. Michaels sells pretty cheap wood letters that you could always paint too.

Love this! Now, I’m going to have to rethink the nursery ideas I have in my head.

LOVE the yarn poms! I think a glittery initial (or two?) would look good in the center. Like @Miss Balloons, i can’t wait to see it finished!

While I like the idea of the letters in the center, I have reservations about them too. I’m not sure where you’re putting this during the ceremony (behind you two at the “alter”? If so, I wouldn’t do any letters. Just because they might be awkwardly sticking out from your head or something when the photographer is taking pictures. And months (or years) later, you’ll be wondering why you put so much stuff behind you. I just believe that less is more when it comes to stuff in the background of your ceremony photos.

On that note, if you wanted to transition it and get use out of it during the reception as well, I would add the letters for the reception and then maybe hang it above the gift table or head table, where it can be enjoyed.

All in all, I think it’s very cute. Good luck with the poms!

Okay, that wreath is going to be seriously adorable! Have I told you that I love your color scheme and your design aesthetic? No? Because I do. For realz. As for the middle, I’m not sure what could go there either, but I know you’ll think of something amazing!

I love that you’ll be able to display the wreath (in theory) after the wedding, too, as a great keepsake! So cute!
