Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

There’s something I failed to mention in my bunnymoon posts. I had the ring well before our vacation, and MOH Sassypants saw it first. Hold up—how is that possible? Didn’t it ruin the surprise? Let me explain.

We started talking rings in the beginning of 2009. I told the mister I liked vintage-inspired settings that are intricate and detailed but not overly busy—something simple at first glance, but when you get up close you notice what makes it unique. Our conversation was reminiscent of the great color debate:

A few jewelry-store visits later, there was one clear winner.

My hands were shaking, I was overwhelmed. I told Mr. Macarons we could leave right then and there with the CZ center stone and I’d be more than happy. I never saw something sparkle so much. He laughed as I handed the ring back to the salesperson. My part was over; the rest was all in Macs’s hands.

Mr. Macarons is even more thorough than me, so it took him awhile to find a jeweler he could trust. Since he wasn’t around, Macs had to rely on email correspondence for all ring matters. Over 100 emails later, I kid you not, he had picked the stone and it was ready to be delivered! Only it couldn’t be sent to him. Mr. Macs informed me that he’d be receiving a package with the ring and that I could go ahead and open the box. “Really? Are you sure?” I asked.

When I retrieved the package I wasn’t expecting a large FedEx box, certainly not one with this inside:

I wanted to make sure there was a ring box inside and not a piece of paper that read “SUCKER!” So what did the girl who’s impatient and bad about surprises do? She tried every three-number combination he’d ever used before giving up.

Later that day around our usual talk time, the mister signed on to Skype to see if I got the package. I held up the locked case and the first words out of his mouth were, “I know you’re going to try combinations you’d think I’d choose, but don’t waste your time. I had the jeweler pick random numbers.” So now what? He wanted to verify that it was the ring he purchased, but how was he going to do that without me seeing it?

That’s where MOH Sassypants came in. I brought the case to work with me and told Sassy she’d be getting a phone call shortly from Mr. Macarons. It was her job to verify everything inside the case. I watched from a distance as she opened the case and the enclosed ring box. Sassy’s jaw dropped as she let out a big WOW followed by, “Oh my gosh, you’re so lucky.” That made the months leading up to our trip pass infinitely slower.

What could have wrecked the surprise outright made it all the more surprise-y. Unbearable, in fact.

Do you have an interesting engagement-ring story?

Go for Macs for getting the jeweler to pick the numbers.

That is intense! I would have tried anything and everything to crack that case open! Mac is one smart guy to have the jeweler pick random numbers.

Macs is super clever for thinking of that! But it wouldn’t driven me nuts to have it delivered to me!

I think I’d have gone crazy and then tried every single possible combination. There were only what, a thousand possibilities? (Guess I don’t handle suspense well.) Good for you, waiting - I’m sure it was worth it.

lol, I’d have been googling how to break a combination lock! (yeah, I’m THAT bad!)

did your MOH lock the case afterwards? ;) I know *I* would’ve checked the moment I had the chance!

gorgeous ring choice, btw!!!!

The qualities you want in a ring are EXACTLY the same qualities I wanted in a ring, which is how I ended up with a Tacori :) The details are amazing, but not over the top.

… c’mon you didn’t even get a hammer and try to smash the case open??? ;) J/K. I would have tried to figure out the combo too.

*smash the lock open, not case. Wouldn’t want to damage the contents!

YES to this. I like to think my ring fits into this category as well :)

I can’t wait to see the ring you got! Love the Tacori above!

It’s funny, I was thinking about that color illustration today when thinking about wedding planning in general! It’s such a great illustration of one of the big differences in men and women!

My story is similar to this. The giant got the ring in January. I know because when I walked into his closet, his eyes darted to a box on top and I asked what was in it, with a good suspicion that I already knew. He toyed with me for a while then brought it down. He asked if I wanted to know what was inside. Ultimately, I said no but I did want to see! He brought over the ring box to my apartment later that night and showed me. It was a diamond so big my eyes nearly fell outta my head. He didn’t propose for three more months.

He’s just not that great at keeping secrets, especially when he’s excited about it… which I think is kind of adorable, even when it’s agonizing.
