Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

I Might Be a Bad Bride…

June 8th, 2011 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Snow Cone

…but there’s one specific detail I don’t care about. As in, I don’t give a flying you-know-what about the finished product revolving around this detail. As long as it serves its function, we’re cool. It could be the ugliest thing on the block, as long as it does its job. So what wedding detail doesn’t excited a single bridal bone in my body? Stamps.

I’m slowly but surely preparing to send our invitations out into the big, bad world (more on that to come soon!).

Obviously, with any mailing, stamps are involved in the mix. I’ve seen other bloggers lament the monopoly over postcard postage that was previously held by the polar bear.

And I’ve heard horror stories about brides’ invitation suites weighing in at just over the limit for wedding-themed stamps like these:

…meaning they had to tack on some eyesore extra-cent postage, like the injustices you see below:

I just don’t feel a single ounce of emotion related to these issues. Back when I sent our STDs, I purchased a hearty amount of polar bear postcard stamps, knowing I’d have leftovers that would help me with our soon-to-be-existing RSVP postcards. And then USPS, in an attempt to make my life a bit more difficult, decided to raise postcard postage one whole cent. Meaning my poor polar bears have been rendered obsolete. Thankfully, I’m not freaking out about the dozens of polar bears I have left in my arsenal; instead, I’m just planning to invest in some one cent stamps to cover the difference. Sure, some of our RSVP postcards will have two stamps, neither even remotely related to weddings or our color palette. And I can’t even begin to tell you how perfectly OK I am with that.

All I want is to buy the appropriate postage to ensure that our invitations get delivered to their respective destinations without being returned to sender. I don’t care if they’re wedding themed, pop culture themed, or bodily function themed, frankly. I just want to spend the requisite amount of money (and not a dime more) and carry on my merry way.

Are there wedding details that don’t get your heart racing? Where do you stand on the wedding stamp debate—do you go for looks, or sheer function?

Our invitations are on the fairly light side so for the most card we will either go with forever stamps if he can’t get or find the wedding band stamps… Nothing to lose sleep over.

I completely agree. Infact my FMIL is using a postage machine. you stick your envelopes in, and the stamp info is right on here. No pretty picture or anything. Like you I am totally okay with that. I have never noticed other peoples stamps, and dont really care to put any more work on me or her.

Most of my invitations were mailed outside of the country, so no single stamp would work, I slapped on whatever amount worked to get to the total!

Oh thank you for this. I too don’t care too much about the stamps. As long as there are enough to send my stuff, it’s all good.

I completely agree. I never understood spending extra money to get the prettiest stamp. Postage is expensive enough!

Heh. I don’t really care about the stamps. Well, I want to choose stamps I like, but I don’t give a rat’s butt if they match my invites or not :)

Haha! this is funny! I picked cute little purple pansies in a basket that said love on the side. They were cute and 44 cents. Now they really dont match my green invites but oh well! :)

I didn’t care about the stamps either, so we had a wolf and thetwo cent stamp. It was fine with me and no one said a word.

I must admit that the customized stamps do make my heart flutter but, this will certainly be a low-priority on my to do list so we may end up with random polar bears too and if we do, it’ll be okay.

I’ll admit I stressed over the stamps, but ultimately chose a butterfly cuz it’s pretty… even though it has nothing to do with our wedding or colors…

I also 100% don’t care about the stamps! I can barely remember what they were - I think in Canada it was pink flowers, and I think the international ones were Canadian flags on various old buildings? Not colours that matched anything, but I really didn’t care.

I didn’t care much about the postage either. I did end up using a few of the Royal Wedding stamps that Canada Post released, with William and Kate on it! I thought it was hilarious. Most of mine were regular stamps with a flower on it.

I don’t care in theory, but when and if I have options I will probably care. And if I had the time and/or patience (not to mention the money) I would do vintage stamps, but it’s not happening.

For serious! I didn’t care about transportation! I just didn’t care! I just wanted something cheap. $900 trolly? Nope! $300 bus? Sure!

I cared about our stamps and ordered custom ones for both the Save the Dates and then a different custom one for the actual invite. I was in love/obsessed with them….and only one person mentioned them! One person!! :(

I have a feeling the postal people will care me than I will! Mostly cause I could care less, too!

Seriously, the people around here are typically more of the “what kind do you want?” mind-set than I am! LOL! It’s actually kinda fun, though. So I’ll probably just end up with whatever THEY give me (and, since the it’s mostly women around here, I’m pretty sure they’ll make sure they’re “cute”).

Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to have my own artwork on the stamps, but I’m not paying out the wazoo for stamps, either!

I care. A lot. I’m crazy, Snow Cone…I’m crazy!!!

I’m a details person and, though most of my guests probably won’t even notice, I will have a stamp that looks nice on my pretty, shimmery envelopes. Lol. I guess I figure if I put soooo much time and effort into choosing every tiny invitation detail I might as well choose some pretty stamps to go with it, ya know? I sure as heck won’t be spending extra money on them but I will definitely be obsessing over which stamps I choose.
