Mrs. Elephant's Picture
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store Manager Engagement Date: March 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: The Tribute Golf Club About Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
About Mrs. Elephant

After my weekend get away to NOLA, I had the full week prior to our wedding free to do anything I wanted/needed to do. Without any DIY projects to work on, the week was spent running errands and “cleaning” the apartment. When I say cleaning, I mean as clean as you can get with DIY projects, gifts and other wedding stuff all over a two bedroom apartment.

Monday - I went for my last dress fitting with Becky, who is just the sweetest person ever! (If you’re in the Dallas area and need a tailor PM me and I’ll send her info.)

Everything fit great and we discussed using “top stick” to keep the top of the dress from moving around. After much thought…well, really not that much thought, I think in the back of my mind I always knew what shoes I wanted to change into for our reception.

Yep my custom chucks!

I loved the fact that Mr. E would be wearing his and I thought it would only be right to wear mine, plus they are super comfy! Since there was a huge height difference between my heels (and what my dress was hemmed to) and my chucks, Becky taught mom how to pin up the bottom of my dress for the reception.

Tuesday - We packed up all of the DIY projects.

Half of our stuff

I think one of the best moves was to print out a “box contents” page for each box. Since I had pictures of all of the projects (documented for blog posts), I made a quick Word doc that illustrated everything in each box and taped it to the top of the box. I also printed all of the box contents pages and gave a set to our planner and the venue coordinator. I think this info made their jobs much easier while setting up on Saturday.

We loaded up the Escape (don’t underestimate the size of a small SUV) and dropped it all off at the venue.

From there we swung by and picked up Mr. E’s tux from Men’s Wearhouse.

Lookin’ good!

Wednesday - Yay for a mom and me pamper day!! Mama E treated me to a relaxer and a mani/pedi on Wednesday. It was really nice to just relax with my mom and really get excited about all of the guests that would be arriving the next day.

Wow, what a smart idea re: box guide. I’ll have to remember that! Did it end up helping a lot in the end?

@toshella: I think it did. My planner and venue staff were able to easily sort the boxes for the ceremony to be set up outside while others worked on the reception boxes inside.

Oh, I thought I was the only OCD person. I’ve got pictures and detailed instructions on how things are to be set up. I’ve printed two copies. One for the venue coordinator and the other for my wedding planner. I’m also doing a walk through with them to make sure they understand how things are to be set up :)

I’ve been planning to do the box contents/set up guide trick since I pulled the idea out of the spring issue of MS Weddings. Obviously you had Martha beat on this one.

Do you think the vendors really paid attention to it?

@bri: I actually did not interact with any other vendors during the set up, my planner did all of that. I talked with my planner during the planning period and she knew how the set up should go. After looking through my photographer’s pictures (because I didn’t get to actually see everything the night of), everything was set up exactly as I pictured it would be.

We are kindred spirits, E. I legitimately got butterflies when I saw how organized your boxes were (a box contents printout? *drool*). Lol, I’m sick…but I’m a firm believer that you can never be *too* organized—especially as a bride. Anyhow…this post has me super pumped up for the week of our wedding!!!

@Miss Seal: HAHA, I can definitely attest to the “you can never be too organized”. With all of that preparation I forgot the most important thing on our wedding day - our marriage license! That slip up provided some laughs for us that night.

Instead of a wedding shower my ladies are going with me the Thursday morning before the wedding to get mani/pedi’s and maybe a massage. Relaxation is the best gift anyone could give me! lol

And I do love your box organization. I am going to attempt something like that - hopefully I can pull it off as well as you did!
