Mrs. Macarons's Picture
Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

Was how I responded to my mother’s suggestion of buying a card box.

Um, this is your daughter; you know, the one who was covered head-to-toe in finger paint as a toddler. The one who couldn’t imagine lava flowing out of her Play-Doh volcano, enveloping her dinosaurs, when she could have the REAL thing: Baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring, duh! Surely she wouldn’t use a card box, certainly not one she didn’t make herself.

I wanted something different. I just didn’t know what. Maybe a train case in one of our colors?

Or how about a mailbox?

Maybe a file organizer instead?

All the affordable options weren’t quite right or required a lot of TLC, and I didn’t want to spend more than $20–30 on something I wasn’t sure what I’d do with after. My searches were turning up empty, so I put the card-container search on hold and switched gears.

Marshalls is my non-crafting home away from home. I’m rather fortunate, or unfortunate depending on how you look at it, to have a Marshalls and a Michaels in the same plaza as my grocery store. I frequent Marshalls far more than I’d like to admit, but most of the time I walk out empty handed. It’s those rare occasions, though, where I hit the jackpot that keep me coming back for more. A trip in March was no exception. I was on the hunt for some small rabbit figurines for our reception decor, and they only had the large garden/doorstop variety. I was approaching the end of the clearance aisle when I looked up and saw it:

Originally $30, marked down twice to $10. It’s recycled glass so it has that dreamy blue/green tint, and I love the fact that the envelopes will be on display. Guests, that means you better bring your penmanship A-game.

Did you find that perfect something unexpectedly?

Awesome! I found this super awesome tin birdy-tastic bin at Hobby Lobby for 50% off and it has a little lid that you can open and close at your leisure. And it is also the perfect size for a card box :)

I always assumed we’d use a birdcage since our wedding is totally bird themed, but I like this way better b/c it is a little different.

Love it!

I was absolutely anti-card box. At the last minute when the venue coordinator found out I didn’t have one, she decided she’d put one of hers out for me. I’m way too anal retentive for that so I rustled up a basket that we used instead.

That’s gorgeous! I would be so broke if there was a Michaels by my grocery store…

Great find! I like the jar idea…my mother forced a card box on me and then decided it wasn’t safe to leave the cards in the box and made me a purse to carry them in lol.

Love it! I have a Homegoods, Marshalls, AND TJ Maxx within two miles in my house, so I have to resist going in them every other day, so I totally know where you’re coming from

Great idea! A huge glass jar will fit perfectly with our theme! Although I must admit, my inner bridezilla is screaming for that file organizer. haha

eeeeeep i love it!!!! i purchased a “memory” box—you know, the ones you can put photos or whatever the heck in and was gonna decorate that bc i didn’t want to spend $30 on a train case on etsy…….but THEN i was cleaning up my parent’s deck area (under the deck actually) and i found an old milk container thing they used to deliver the milk in—it has a flip lid and still has the vintage writing about the milk being fresh and delivered daily!!!! i looooooooove it so much =)

I agree, I HATE card boxes and the like. We are using an old bread box, it has the rustic feel and bread box for the dough! Ha Perfect
