DIY Bridesmaid Newsletter

June 9th, 2011 @ 9:38 am by Mrs. High Wire

Since I decided to let my fabulously fashionable bridesmaids choose their own dresses, I promised I would send them a color swatch as a guide that they can take with them to go shopping. Last weekend I picked up a yard of yummy dark green fabric from JoAnn that was on sale for $5.40. Then I borrowed a pair of scissors and their cutting board to cut out four neat squares of fabric.

The graphic designer we are working with to develop all of our wedding stationery put together this awesome letterhead for us.

To create the newsletter, I started with this template and made changes from there.

Here’s what the newsletter includes:

  • Wedding-planning update
  • Information for dress shopping (color, fabric, length) so everyone still looks cohesive
  • Hair, nails, and accessory information
  • List of all the wedding events and dates (showers, bachelorette party, etc.)
  • A collage of dresses that I liked to give some more guidelines if they want something to help with shopping

I split it up onto three different pages so that they could stick the dates page on their fridge or take the page with the dress examples with them while they shop.

Once the newsletter was written, Mr. High Wire added the letterhead and printed them out for me.

Then came time for the assembly! If you want to do a project like this, here are the (insanely easy) instructions!

I had some silver ribbon left from the winter holidays to use to tie the newsletter and color swatch together.

1. Cut four strips of mostly equal length. In my case, one is shorter because I ran out of ribbon!

2. Ask your kitten if he would like to participate by lying on your supplies. (He apologizes for being “naked” in this photo and not wearing his usual sweater.)

3. Fold your letter into equal-sized thirds (and have your SO give you a perfectly folded template so all of your letters wind up in perfect thirds).

4. Employ same methods and fold your color swatch into thirds.

5. Tie both together with ribbon! I did the very, very fancy double-knot tie. I bet you can also master it with a little practice. :)

6. Line them all up and take a picture for your blog.

7. Take a potty break and come to find your SO has stamped and labeled the envelopes already!

8. Neatly place your letters inside. Seal.

All photos are personal

9. Watch your SO excitedly leave the apartment to drop them in the mail.

10. Wonder deeply about why your man’s man (gun-enthusiast, jerky-eating) fiancé was so excited to help accomplish this project.

Does your SO surprise you with the wedding tasks he/she elects to help with?

Very cute! I’m letting my girls pick out their own dresses as well in a hot pink color from Davids Bridal. Three of them already got theirs. I am excited to see the contrast.

Love the letterhead and background on the newsletters. I used that template for my first newsletter but the last 3 were totally different because I needed more room.

The extra help I’m sure is always nice. :-)

My FH has been my paper cutter and corner rounder, much to his dismay. He’s also been a fantastic gluer.

That’s a really sweet idea and definitely useful if your BMs are scattered all over the country! I kind of love it!!

Ha! My SO was (surprisingly) excited about our engagement photo session. I found out why when we started brainstorming places to go for photos. His idea . . . the shooting range!
