We have now been engaged for over six months, and I still stare for inappropriately long amounts of time at my engagement ring.
Lately I’ve been daydreaming about the addition of the beautiful matching wedding band. Besides it being pretty (and shiny! and sparkly!), I am so excited to wear it because of what it represents.
I’ve had moments lately where I realize with sheer excitement that we really are getting married. I know I blog (and think) about it constantly, but there are random waves of super-high excitement. The comfort of knowing someone is out there that loves you and wants to be there for you for the rest of their life is powerful stuff, people!
Here is what I’ll be sporting (with my engagement ring, for reference):

I’m already talking about my second ring, and my poor fiancé doesn’t even have one yet!
He has decided to go with a tungsten band that will look similar to what a large majority of our guy friends are sporting these days:

There’s been lots of talk lately about husbands who elect not to wear wedding bands. *cough* Prince William *cough* I believe that choice is a personal one to be decided by each individual couple.
A lot of the consensus, I’ve noticed, has revolved around the other men in the couple’s life. If a dad didn’t wear a ring, a lot of times a bride won’t be bothered if her husband decides not to wear one either.
My dad wears a wedding band—so surprise, surprise, I always imagined that my husband would wear one as well.
FFIL actually gave his wedding band to FMIL to wear after her wedding set was stolen (how sweet of him!).
I’m glad we are on the same page as far as wedding bands go. Growing up, it was always something I noticed in adult males and made the assumption that ring=married, no ring=single. It has been a learning experience for me to no longer make that kind of assumption, and giving up assumptions and judgments is always a good thing if you ask me!
What does your wedding band mean to you? Do you have any strong feelings toward grooms who wear (or don’t wear) wedding bands after the wedding?
