Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

OK. I have to admit it.

After Mr. Sweet Cream proposed and the sparkly new accessory grazed my ring finger, I didn’t get a manicure!

I know.

And it’s almost been a full year, and I have yet to get one(!!!).

Don’t get me wrong—I love painting my nails and making them look like shiny and kempt. And I am the person who gets that feeling you get when you’re five on Christmas day when Sally Hansen comes out with a new color.

But for some reason I’m not one for shades the color of roses, and going to a nail salon is a rarity for me. I do love painting my nails, though!

This is the laquer color that made me let out a little shriek in the drugstore that made heads turn.

This one did it to me, too—Opulent Cloud.

And besides just shades, I love seeing new ideas that are completely out of the box!

I love love love these lace-inspired nails. (Image via Glamour)

Of course I would Google. Of course I would search…

There’s actually a cool DIY tutorial here.

Here’s my hand on the night after the big question was popped (and our lives were officially changed forever):

Personal pic

I know that there were smudges on that pinky to the camera’s eye—but it looked OK in person. And believe me—after seeing pics like this, I try as hard as I can to be a little bit more careful.

So on the big day I do not think that I will be going the route of the French manicure or some shade of roses (unless we are talking about yellow ones). It just isn’t “me,” and I want to be as me as I can be on my wedding day.

So while the dress hunt begins and other plans are made, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the varnish that speaks to me. I will get them done professionally—especially after said pic above—and I may grow them out a tiny bit…but no false nails for me. They just make my fingernails clostrophobic, what can I say?

Elle Woods might have said, “Never underestimate the power of a woman with a French manicure.” But I think some rockin’ nails are equally intimidating.

Did you get a manicure after you were sporting some shiny new bling? What is your favorite nail-polish color? Do you know what you are doing with your talons for the big day?

I didn’t get a manicure either. I actually have that blue nail polish from the first photo. It’s my absolute favorite!

Perhaps your nails can be your “something blue”? =)

Right on! I didn’t rock a French mani either cuz it’s not “me”. I did don a shade of “romantic pink” as I like to call it.
And in the name of vain, I actually tried to stop Mr. FT from proposing because I did not have a manicure at the time!!! Yes.. of all the things that was racing through my mind when he was on his knees, I was thinking.. “what?!?! now??! but.. my NAILS!!!”.. lol.

Btw, nice ring!

I didn’t get a mani either… I almost NEVER have color on my finger nails at all - My toes are almost ALWAYS some fuchsia or purple or whatever-fits-my-mood bright color :) I’m currently painting my nails fuchsia… I’m just not sure what I’ll do for the big day :)

I like stephbonthego’s idea of “something blue” being your nails! Essie’s Lapis of Luxury is super pretty. My go to mani color isnt really a color at all- it’s more of a sheer nude, Essie’s Best Boy Friend. Makes your nails look pretty, but not over done like a french mani can. I can’t wait to see what you pick out!

Ooh! I have to confess to being a pale-pink traditionalist because it hides the ugliness of my usually bitten nails, but I just read an article in Vogue about this new technique for a python-skin manicure - it might be right up your alley!! It’s here: http://www.vogue.com/vogue-daily/article/wild-thing-springs-new-python-pedicure/

i don’t usually wear nail polish [i've gotten exactly 1 mani/pedi in my life] but the mister has expressly requested i do it for the wedding since i never have polish on. i’m not that into the french manicure so i’ll probably go with a more demure shade of something.

@FloretteLiz… that’s awesome b/c it’s “you”!
@highwire - I love that color blue! Can you imagine back in the day when red was one of the only colors you could do!!
@stephbonthego & @Devon - That is such a good idea!! That is now definitely on my list of potential nail options!!
@Mrs.FrenchToast - I love french’s on other people, and I did sport a french before (but with neon pink, with black tips — i know. i was a crazy, young fool ;) Isn’t it so funny about what runs through your head when you realize that the big question is coming?
@ThePinkPeony - what a good find!!! I love that python skin mani!!

Woo! I love nailpolish, I collect the different colors like kids collect crayons. But my favorite is clear lol. Though I love the lace nails! Did you know Sally Hansen makes these awesome stick on polishes? I’m rocking neon yellow now–it’s easy enough for even me to handle!

I’m a fan of the slightly sheer, sparkly nail polish colors. :) I went with a pale (almost nude) pink for the big day! And, I only recently learned about Shellac nail polish–supposedly it’s more chip-resistant and lasts much longer? I haven’t had a chance to try it out, but it sounds fab!

I admit it, I’m a frenchy kind of girl. Not just for our wedding though, I always have been. Typically I get a french manicure on my hands, and bright red on my toes. For the wedding, I got french on both in the name of matching though. (Which was silly because my toes never saw the light of day. Doh!)

I have a giant box of nail polish of all shades that I use on my toes but I rarely have anything on my hands because it chips so easily. I will do something for the big day but not a frenchie. Probably a pale pink. Oh and if any of you want a great supplement to grow out long, strong nails I started taking Maxi Hair Vitamin by Country Life and my nails have never been stronger! My hair grows at an alarming rate too. The stuff is awesome! I get it at iherb.com

Grrr…it’s pretty nail polish colors like these that make me miss *not* having a full acrylic set. The Sealman really likes the Frenchie look so I’ve gone with it for a while (and will continue through the wedding), but after that…I think I’m done. I loved them at first but I get bored easily and am ready for some new fun and lovely shades :D

I never got a manicure after he proposed and I didn’t even paint them for the wedding. Maybe bad, but it’s me and I wanted it that way.

I didn’t get a maincure until the day before the wedding. I did get a french manicure, but I had teal toes. :)

I wore a very fair shade of pink - no chip style! (Anyone else a huge fan of the no-chip mani??) I just rarely have color on my nails so having anything that is a shade or two darker than clear looks weird on me (well, at least I think so).

I would go with a shade of your wedding color scheme :)
