Ms. Gazelle's Picture
Ms. Gazelle, Calgary/Vancouver Age and Occupation: 32, Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Technology Analyst Engagement Date: September 3, 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Brock House Restaurant, Vancouver About Me: I am a marathon runner, cyclist, Ironman triathlete and beautiful shoe fiend who also loves kicking back and watching Glee. I grew up a bit of a nomad as I traveled around the world with my family, living everywhere from Australia to England to South America and Indonesia. I finally settled in Calgary a few years ago and met Mr. Gazelle who loves me even though we cheer for different hockey teams. We are planning a bit of a destination wedding in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia and we can’t wait to share the day with our close family and friends.
About Ms. Gazelle

As we get closer and closer to wedding day my instinct to start making lists kicks in. During times like these I have those moments of “I must remember this!” but my brain is going in a million different directions so I promptly forget.

Enter Google Docs. It is awesome for creating spreadsheets that I can then access on my home or work computer or on my phone. Plus I can share them with other people which helps get around people having a different version of Excel (or perhaps no Excel at all). I’ve created a timeline and shared it with our day of coordinator and photographer for feedback. I’ve created a list of DIY projects left to do and ranked them by importance and ease of the project (so if anything is less important and too difficult it can fall off the list). I’ve even started creating a list of things to pack. The last time I went on a trip without making a list I packed way too many tops (that didn’t actually go with anything) and I did not pack enough underwear. Enough said.

Yesterday I was driving home listening to some tunes and thinking about whether this song would be a good one to play at the reception, and oh my gosh…

we have to play Dire Straits’ Romeo and Juliet because I love that song!

I need to create a spreadsheet as soon as I get home!

As soon as I was home I excitedly told Mr. Gazelle my idea. He looked at me and said, “You know Miss Gazelle, I know you are an engineer, but there may be a thing as too many spreadsheets.”

Really? Can there ever be too many spreadsheets?

Are you somewhat forgetful like me and therefore a chronic list maker?

There can never be enough spreadsheets/lists! I am a chronic “post-it” list maker, and it drives FI crazy. I have actually had to start hiding my yellow-sticky sheets now!

That’s going to be my first dance song!! (but another version.. i think it was the “live in New York” version) It was the ONLY thing i’ve had picked out since i was a little girl.. no other visions of the wedding at all, just knew i’d dance to this song!

Also, so jealous of your ability to use google docs. My work (at an engineering company) blocks it for security reasons so i have never ending versions of excel documents floating between email accounts and sometimes i accidentally use an outdated one. quite annoying!

I should really start doing the whole google docs thing. I am constantly emailing myself updated spreadsheets and documents and it’s really inefficient! Are you able to share only certain documents with certain people? I.e. can you keep some things private and only give people access to, say, a timeline and not your guest list or whatev?

I can totally relate to list-making. I have lists everywhere! It used to totally drive FI crazy, but he’s grown to love them too. Occasionally, I even see him start one. Love the springpad app on my phone :)

Oh, and last time I went home to FL for a visit, I pulled out undies and socks, but somehow they never made it to the suitcase. Needless to say, I’ve revamped my packing lists to include a “pulled out” column and a “packed” column. lol

I heart google documents. I think you would know if you reached the point of too many spreadsheets if you needed a spreadsheet to keep track of them all. If not?! Then happy list making!

hahah I write everything down right now. I am waiting for my website to go up so I can start blogging and organizing my ideas. (Only way my family really can easily comment….they live 3 hours away from me) ANYWAY….I don’t have enough spreadsheets. I have about 100 pieces of notebook paper in my purse, room, on my desk, at my work, in the kitchen, ect. because I have the worst memory ever and when i think of a good idea or good DIY project 3 minutes later I forget it. SO I WRITE IT ALL DOWN. Now I just need to better organize it.

Who doesn’t like list making? The more lists, the less likely that I’ll forget it…hopefully. Totally with you Miss G. List makers unite!

I’m with everyone else - I LOVE lists! Seriously couldn’t function without them. And no, there can never be a thing as too many spreadsheets! (Says the accountant.)

I’m a big fan of spreadsheets and kept a massive one for our wedding with address, things to do, our budget and vendors we were researching.

I can’t live without making lists. I wish I paid more attention to the lists once I’ve made them, but I have to keep lists and spreadsheets.

My Google spreadsheet is a thing of beauty. Pro tip: instead of making separate spreadsheets for each item (packing list, songs, to-do, vendor contact info, etc.), add sheets to your master spreadsheet. This way you can tab through all of the information quickly, instead of having to open tons of documents.

@jbz: Truthfully I think my favourite version is live from their On the Night album:

Dire Straits FTW!!! Great first dance song!

I’m a list maker too, and I get picked on a lot for that fact by the boyfriend. There is never a thing as too many spreadsheets.

@hotchocolate: Yes, you absolutely can! You choose which spreadsheets to share and who you are going to share them with (plus if you only want to give them access to view or to edit).

@sdrury89: LOL! I try not to check anything off until it is actually in the same suitcase for the same reason!

Google Docs totally saved my bum multiple times when it came to managing our guest list (and now keeping track of thank you’s)!

I love lists and spreadsheets…totally my security blanket. That, along with my organizer, keeps my wedding planning on track
