About Mrs. High Wire

We took our annual Easter trip to Mr. High Wire’s hometown to celebrate with the family a few weeks ago. One of the perks of being in an interfaith relationship is that we don’t have to split our time during the holidays throughout the year. His family gets us for Easter, and we celebrate Passover with my family earlier in the week. Win-win for all!

Our two little flower girls for the wedding spent some time frolicking in the grass. They look like sisters, don’t they? Well, they are actually first cousins!

Callie, who is a little bit older (we celebrated her birthday that weekend, too!), will be one of the junior bridesmaids in the wedding. Here she is collecting her loot from the Easter egg hunt.

Some trivia you may not know about flower girls:

  • Traditionally, the flower girl was created for entertaining the wedding guests with her sweet and innocent nature.
  • The flower girl’s main role is to scatter rose petals along the aisle ahead of the bride, creating a floral pathway that represents the bride’s beauty. This symbolic gesture also indicates that the bride is now taking a journey down the path to a new life, soon to be joined with her new husband.
  • The first flower girl was in service to a bride and groom in ancient Rome, carrying sheaths of wheat and herbs for blessings of fertility and prosperity.
  • For many generations, the only female attendants to the bride were children. This tradition continues often with multiple flower girls in large society or royal weddings. In France, it is common that all attendants in the procession be children. That reminds me of this famous photo:

oh, yes, there will be kids!!!!

We have two (son who will be 9 and daughter who will be 5) and my brother has two boys (ages 8 & 5). My FI has a niece who will be 3 and twin boys will be one.

So, there will be our two kids (ring bearer and flower girl), my FI’s niece (flower girl), and my brother’s boys (who will be escorts for my daughter and FI’s niece).

I love my nephews (and so does my FI who they ADORE) but FI’s niece is an uber brat and there basically to keep peace. Sad, but true.

Love flower girls, but there were no kids we could grab for our wedding. Instead, we had our dogs be the Flower and Rings Dogs even though they’re both boys.

Nope! No kids for us. There are just too many to choose from on both sides and I don’t want drama or 7 flowergirls/ringbearers.

Yes! Five of them. I am having two flower girls, two junior bridesmaids (they are 11), a ring bearer (it will be a girl, my fiancee’s daughter), and a boy who will carry the Here comes the bride sign.

Yes! We have six neices and nephews (its split three and three). So we have two flower girls that look like twins (they are sisters), a junior bridesmaid, and three ring bearers. It should be pretty interesting!

I have 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers. They’re all my neices and nephews. Oldest will be 8, youngest will be 5.

Neat trivia! I only knew about the first one. ;) We had my 20 month-old niece as our flower girl, and she performed her duties admirably. So friggin’ cute!

We don’t have any little girls in our families, so we won’t have flower girls. :( Yours are super cute though!

Aw, they are so cute! We are having 2 flower girls but sadly no one has any boys the right age for a ring bearer. Oh well.

For sure!! Our family is very tight and it just wouldn’t be the same without them!!

My youngest son and nephew (nearly the same age) will be our ushers. Two of our three daughters will be bridesmaids. My niece, who will then be eleven will be our ring bearer and my granddaughters and youngest niece will be our flower girls.

They are all super excited to play their parts.

Agh, this post makes me feel so bad about not having any children involved in our wedding. But at the end of the day, I know it will be for the best. I am kinda bummed that I won’t have any cute photos like the one above though!

Miss High Wire, I’d love to read a post about your interfaith relationship. I’m in a similar situation, so i’m curious as to how you handle it!

we don’t have any kids in our family/friend circles of that age, so no kiddos for us!
