“OMG Shoes” Part I

June 10th, 2011 @ 8:39 am by Mrs. Macarons

While I share Kelly’s enthusiasm, I have to question her sense of style.

Shortly after ordering my dress, I began the great shoe hunt. A lot of women opt for comfort since they know they’ll be on their feet most of the day, but not this bride. Mr. Macarons is a good nine inches taller than I am. It makes holding hands while walking down the street or formal dancing a little awkward, unless I’m rocking some heels. Any other day standing on my tippy toes works, but I don’t want to look back at our wedding photos and see him hunched over during our first kiss.

Not all shoes are created equal; when you’re looking at a 3.5” or higher heel, you’re going to have to spend a little more if you want it to be comfortable. I was fine with spending upwards of $200 on my wedding shoes, but I wanted to be able to wear them again. Ivory was out of the question; I was seeing green.

Let me tell you, green heels were hard to come by during my early searching.

You’re probably familiar with these:

Which were extremely popular and highly coveted. I saw a few pair floating around the Weddingbee Classifieds, but none in my size.

Then I saw a pair of green Louboutins with a blue sole:

This was a custom job, and I can’t afford Louboutins as it is, let alone a custom-made pair.

Another great pair of Louboutins:

I found a few used pairs online, still well over $300 and not in my size.

After a month of searching, I found one pair of shoes I thought were OK. I ordered the Nina Electra, in Apple Green and Pistachio, from Zappos.

They were pretty comfortable, but my little toes barely peeked out of the peep toe; and the parts that did were covered by the bow. Back they went, and I returned to the drawing board with a different color in mind…

My fiance is 10 inches taller than me, so I was looking for some heels as well. Then I started talking to our photographer and he said that our height difference is adorable, and its who we are… he wants to emphasize me on my tippy toes to kiss my fiance and said that if I do choose heels he’s making me take them off for awhile for photos haha. So now I don’t know!

Great shoe inspiration. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. I hear you on the height thing, too, though with a thirteen inch difference I’ve basically accepted the fact that no shoes will close the height gap between us.

When I saw that you were looking for green shoes I got super excited! I am 6′2” so heels aren’t in the wedding cards for me (at least not super tall ones), but I found these green beauties not that long ago & fell in love. They are much more vibrant in person. I heart them.

My FH is exactly one foot taller than me. When we first started dating I insisted on wearing heels all the time. This soon gave way to my so-cal lifestyle desire to wear flip-flops. Most days you will find me in flip flops or ballet slipper flats, so when it came to shoe shopping I wasn’t so concrened about height. I didn’t think 4 inches would make a difference in our 12 inch gap, so I bought cute heels for the ceremony and sparkly flats for the reception.

I’m a green shoe bride as well! I’m getting married on St. Patrick’s Day, and I figured the shoes could be a little nod to that. I feel like a leprechaun in these!

Heels hardly make a difference for me since I’m 5′5″ and he’s 6′7″. It’s going to be tough for pictures, but at least I can wear whatever heel size I want!
