Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

Where It All Began

June 10th, 2011 @ 11:18 am by Mrs. Cannon

Now, I don’t want to overwhelm you with too much romance after the story of our ultra-romantic non-proposal, but I’ve decided to give you all a peek into my world with our equally romantic “how we met” story.

The actual first time we met is a bit hazy for both of us since we didn’t really talk to each other. My college roommate played bass in a band that frequently played shows with another band. That band featured one Mr. Cannon as their bass player! My roommate (AKA Bridesmaid K) became friends with Mr. Cannon, and he started showing up at parties thrown at our apartment. So, I believe the first time we met was at an out-of-control Christmas party at my old apartment, but I could be wrong. (Luckily, I do not have any pictures of said party.) Regardless, the first time I actually remember talking to him at any length was at Bridesmaid K’s 21st birthday party. I was engaged to my ex at the time, so the conversation was light and silly and I didn’t really think much of it.

Fast forward a year or so, and I had recently broken things off with my ex. I was very conflicted about my feelings over the whole thing and was trying to overcome the loss and loneliness brought about by the situation. A different old roommate (AKA Bridesmaid N) threw a party and encouraged me to come. I was determined to go and have fun, meet new people, and flirt shamelessly. Mr. Cannon had just moved back to the area after a year of traveling and was looking to reconnect with old friends and have some fun. He heard about Bridesmaid N’s party and decided to go with one of his friends.

Me, at the party. It was a theme party, OK?

As I’m sure you’ve already put together, we ran into each other at the party and started talking. My ride home ended up leaving early and my backup ride ended up getting too drunk to drive me home. Mr. Cannon and his friend wound up giving me a ride back to my apartment and we (well, Mr. Cannon and I) became pretty inseparable from there on out. He was living up in a Detroit suburb and I was living in Toledo, and Mr. Cannon would make the trip down to visit every weekend since I didn’t have a car. A few months after we started dating, he moved down to Toledo. And not long after that I got a job offer—but it was all the way in Arizona.

Did you meet your FI in a boring way (or in a stupid costume)?

Love college romance. :) No costumes here, but this story did remind me that one of the first times I mustered up the courage to knock on Mr. Tartlet’s dorm room door was the morning *after* a big party. He wasn’t doing so hot. ;)

I met Mr. Starfish in college, too. I went to see my dorm neighbor to hang out and she was in the middle of a study session with Mr. S. Super boring way to meet, but it worked. :)

We met at a Halloween party that was thrown by my ex. I was a roller derby girl and he was a “first year med student” (in scrubs and covered in blood). Our cake topper was a sculpture showing a boy and a girl holding hands wearing the costumes we wore at that party.

First time we met, he was there with his girlfriend and ignored me completely, even though I was trying to hit on him (don’t be mad, I didn’t know he had a girlfriend, it wasn’t obvious).

Second time, he was single and I was dressed as Susan Sto Helit, granddaughter of Death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Sto_Helit. He was dressed in normal clothes.

In fairness to me, it was Halloween, so he was the out of place one.

@Brooke: That’s cute that you were able to throw back to your meeting on your cake topper!
@Emma: Mr. Cannon was also a spoil sport who was not wearing a costume to this costume party. LAME! Also, I have always wanted to get into Terry Pratchett and never knew where to start- what do you suggest? (I worked at a bookstore all through college and was checking out his stuff when I was shelving but never took the plunge.)

@Miss Cannon: Lame indeed!

I would start with Mort or Guards Guards, but after the first couple, once you’re hooked, go back to the beginning (the Colour of Magic) and read all the way through. You don’t actually need to for a lot of it, but I think it’s better.
