Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

After we began checking things off our big-picture list, we began to think of who we would want to stand by us on The Big Day.  Of course we knew just who…but the time-killer was how to complete the mission of the ask.  Being so stressed about the perfect ask for my BMs completely made me get just a glimpse into the intensity of planning a proposal. I realize that this wasn’t as big of a deal as a “proposal” where I’d have to get down on one knee, but I still wanted it to be special.

I realize it could have been easier just to ask. But I never let myself off that easy.

I loved ideas from all over the bridal online universe…

Look at these beauts from Cami’s Paperie on Etsy.

I decided to make everyone homemade peach vodka. Even though it took a little peeling and chopping and some time, I thought it was worth it (and bonus that there was too much to fill all the bottles so some wound up staying with me!). I found bottles at our local Home Goods for three dollars and designed some labels with favorite fonts.

Next I decided to make paper dolls. The old-school kind where you have to tape lollipop sticks to the back of the neck—because I’m a blast from the past like that. I sketched out assorted BM dresses and accessories, and the sky was the limit since it was only paper…

And then came the old-school slideshow I made in iMovie. I spent hours scanning pictures of my past (and present), and it had me sobbing as I flashed back to my babyhood (with Cousin Sweet Cream), to braces (with BM Sweet Cream), to my future with my FSIL Sweet Cream. The melodies of Miley’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Rascal Flatts’s “Life is a Highway,” and The Beatles’ “In My Life” played in the background as we all grew up right before our eyes on the computer screen. I knew it was worth the effort. They are masterpieces!

I know that there is a vintage diet book in there. It’s not because BM Sweet Cream needs a diet—quite the contrary! She just loves funny vintage stuff and this certainly fit the bill. You should SEE some of those exercises that promise to keep the bust high!! :)

While I invited each over separately for some snacks and wine and then showed them the movie and presented the basket filled with goodies, I had to mail Cousin Sweet Cream’s package clear to the other side of the country. But she got it. And she cried. And she called me. And she LOVED it.

So while Mr. Sweet Cream asked his men with a one-liner at a BBQ, I labored over these special surprises. Although I certainly am jealous, I know that I couldn’t have done it with just a question over the phone. Even though I was asked that way and still felt so excited and tingly.

I hope that they liked it. And I hope that they will be remembered.

Did you ask the near and dear to your heart to be a part of your day in a special way? What did you do?

These are so cute! I’m sure they must have loved receiving them.

I wound up making each one a card. And since they don’t live in the world of wedding blogs like me, were really surprised and thought it was the cutest thing. Although honestly nothing compared to yours!

Wow. I thought it was just going to be the vodka. Your paper dolls are the sweetest idea ever! That is one of the most original ideas I’ve seen in awhile.

Is it ok if I link to this idea on my blog? I’m putting together a links post with some of my favorites from the week and this would be fantastic!

I’m pretty sure if you gave me a bottle of peach vodka, I’d be on board with pretty much any request… PG, of course :)

Aw, what a sweet package! The paper dolls are such a creative touch. Coming up with a neat way to ask my girls is one of the things I regret not having done.

I live cross country from my 3 BMs, but happened to be home visiting and asked them in person, just randomly popped it out LOL.

I had to ask my MOH over the phone, she’s about 6 hours away and I knew I wouldn’t see her soon.

I love how you asked your girls - SO cute!! I would have loved the iMovie!!
