My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

Big Decisions with Little Time

June 12th, 2011 @ 5:55 pm by Mrs. Cannon

Once we squeezed through our non-proposal and were considering ourselves engaged, the first big question was “When?” Since we were looking at a pretty short engagement (sevenish months), we decided that instead of doing save the dates, we needed to do “Um, are there any unsaved dates you might have?”

We emailed and blogged four possible dates to ensure that our most important guests (close family and friends) would be able to make it. After everyone had a chance to weigh in, we realized that there was one day that seemed to work for everyone, so I emailed our church to confirm that the date was available for the ceremony. (There was no debate over where the ceremony would be. We knew we wanted a church wedding, and we had been attending this particular church since we moved back to Toledo.) The secretary confirmed that the date was available and set up a meeting with our pastor to discuss the ceremony.

And just like that, the wedding went from a theoretical idea to a concrete event. Things were getting real, and quickly!

How long did it take for your wedding to start feeling real?

My soon-to-be-MR and I have been planning our wedding long before the question ever got popped! So when he proposed one weekend in New Orleans, that following week we had the wheels in motion. I love that he has always been so open to talking about mushy wedding stuff:)

I just tested my save the date and it arrived in the mail with all the post office markings on it. That was my first sense of the wedding being “real.” Once it’s in writing to all the guests via the mail it feels like there is no turning back.

I’m a large handful of weeks out, and it still doesn’t feel quite real. Hopefully sometime soon it kicks into high, high gear!

Once we sent our Save-the-Dates the wedding started to feel more concrete, but I never really had the “wow, this is it” moment until I saw Mr. Tartlet for the first time on our wedding day. :)

Less than 24 hours and I was on the phone with my sister discussing dates. I didn’t waste time. The crazy thing about it is we still have another 16 months.

I guess you could say it all really started feeling real for me this past week. We created and sent our save the dates, I made my bouquet, and we got an almost finalized guest list. We decided on a date in early April, but I had to finish school first before I could even think about any wedding stuff, but I finished school on May 23 and everything has been moving right along since then.

@Miss Snow Cone: Me too! I hope it starts feeling real before the rehearsal at least, but until now it still feels like a distant dream.

Things got real for me when we had our engagement party and we had so many people in one place excited for us.

That’s awesome! I love it when things just work out like that. I’m with Pony and Snow Cone, things haven’t started to feel real just yet.

hahaha I did the same thing to pick out date.
and as for it feeling ‘real’ yet…..I’m less than 3 weeks away and still NOTHING!!! And everyone keeps asking me about it and I just decided its easier to say I’m excited and then end the wedding convo. We’ll see when I actually get excited and nervous.
