Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

Liking the Driver’s Seat

June 13th, 2011 @ 4:07 pm by Miss Sweet Cream

I have a confession to make.

I am a closet control freak. Or as I’d like to call it, “hands on.”

I have tried to relinquish the reins of life, but planning a wedding just isn’t the time or place to do it. I count myself pretty lucky that those around me can go with my flow. This includes taking part in stenciling homemade napkins…

…pinky swearing that they’ll be by my side making limoncello in lieu of a champagne toast…

…and getting ready to get down and diiirty to make some BBQ sauce for our escort card/favor all rolled into one!

So I have ideas that I KNOW I just have to have or I just know I’ll die that are part of the festivities leading up to us tying the knot.

THE SHOWER

I know that I want a “things that go together” themed shower. Think peanut butter & jelly. Peaches & cream. Bacon & eggs. Thank goodness I could talk my ladies into letting me…wait for it…design the invites.

But I LOVE this kind of thing. And just look at the rough draft!

I loved brainstorming things that “go together,” everything from “pork chops & applesauce” to “Fred & Ginger.”

When you lift it up, there are more details on on page two, including a voice saying not to worry because the date and place (our abode) are not a surprise (although everything else is!).

I know what you are thinking. But I just love doing stuff like this and it’s my day, so why not. I also wanted it at our house and not be a “surprise.” I want my shower to go long into the evening and be more of a party atmosphere versus a tea party—even though I do love tea. I want have the right dress picked out and not show up in my sweats and a concert T-shirt (which I might just add, FSIL Sweet Cream did to her surprise 16th birthday). I don’t want to make trips in a truck filled with our gifts. I just want to party—and my guests do, too—on my own stompin’ grounds.

Don’t worry. I had to promise that everything else would remain a surprise—except for an idea for favors…but I swear once you see them you’ll agree that they are awesome. I would never put the heavy task on my girls just because I may be borderline insane with the time I put into some projects.

I really can’t wait to see some of the things they come up with for the “things that go together” themed shower!

THE BACHELORETTE PARTY

I knew that I wanted a weekend down the shore. That may seem like a lot of time, but people do that around my neck of the woods. I also knew that rooms were getting booked quickly, so I begged and begged to let my BMs let me book a house. And they let me. Because they are awesome like that. And who could deny this adorable house (especially since it is oh so reasonable, overlooks the bay, AND has a firepit out back)???

Again, I pinky swore everything else would be a surprise—and I’m OK with that. The reins are now theirs. It’s not that I don’t trust my girls to pull it off—they totally rock. I just have my heart set on some things.

How are you handling surprises like your bachelorette party or shower? Do you have something in mind that you wish that your girls would do?? Do you zip your lip or spill your heart out—complete with hyperlinks—like me?

Hahaha, you sound just like me when it came to planning my shower and bachelorette! I SOOOOO wanted to do the invites for the shower but relinquished control to my mom (don’t tell her I cringed when I saw the fonts she used). On second thought she probably doesn’t know what a font is. I also gave ideas for my bachelorette and would love to design the invites for that as well. But my girls won’t let me. I guess I have plenty of other wedding things to design still :)

@xtatic1 - haha I literally LOLed at “not knowing what a font is,” my mom is the same way. I had to give up control for surprises… but I can’t wait to see what they come up with!!

@zilla - i know! Right? Her Cookies Love Milk graphic is actually what got me started down wanting a theme like that!

Oh, Miss Sweet Cream, you are my wedding planning twin! (um, also, that house? I live not far from there, I think - GREAT pick if it’s where I think!!) My MOH (my fabulous sister) and my mom tease me all the time that I have to learn to give up control of planning things, but thankfully, they also understand that HI, this is not the time to learn that, and are letting me design invites, make shower favors (but how cute is a plantable paper flower in a flower pot with a “plant tag” that has the guest’s name so it’s also a place card? I mean, SERIOUSLY! too obsessed with the idea to NOT do it!) and do other crafty things to my heart’s content - it’s just so FUN! :)
I HEART your “things that go together” idea btw - that’s genius! Can’t wait to hear about the shower itself!

I spilt the beans that if there were any sort or penis paraphenalia, tiaras, or nekkid dudes I would be leaving the scene immediately.

I feel like I’ve immersed myself in the planning of the wedding day so fully that I’m more than happy to hand over other planning duties to my lovely ladies. I can barely keep my head above water, as is!

I definitely have opinions about such things, but I try to limit my suggestions and leave the final decisions up to my girls.

I was totally clueless about the shower and bachelorette, and was very happy to hand the reins over to my girlfriends! On a slightly related note, where did you get that adorable Batman and Robin graphic? Those invites are fantastic!

Thanks, ladies!

@ThePinkPeony - I get teased all the time too & now have no control of anything shower & bachelorette related… :( lol. That’s OK. I cannot wait 4 some surprises! And that plant tag sounds absolutely adorable!!

@Mrs.Tartlet - The Batman & Robin is from http://weheartit.com/entry/8678497. Aren’t they great?!
