Make Me Up

June 13th, 2011 @ 12:54 pm by Mrs. Sparkler

Next week I have my makeup trial.

Cue over-excitement.

I think the reason I’m so excited, is because I have never, EVER been good at makeup. I remember being so scared of mascara in middle school, that I would only wear the clear version while my friends experimented with bright yellow eye shadow and hot pink lips. The craziest I ever got was when I bought my own bronzer (and wore it only on top of my natural tan). Look out, boys.

Thankfully, as the years passed, I became a teeny bit more makeup savvy… but not much. The first time I ever felt 100% confident with my look, was just one year ago. I borrowed a friend’s eye shadow, and it happened to be the perfect shade for my coloring. As you may have guessed, I’ve been using it every day since then. Not exactly adventurous.

So for my wedding day makeup look, I don’t really want to look like I do every day. I know that goes against what many brides are looking for, but I want to look fabulous, you guys. I don’t want to look like “Miss Sparkler Goes to Work,” I want to look like “Miss Sparkler Gets Married and Freakin’ OWNS IT.”

Now, while I’m certainly not going for a RuPaul version of fabulous, I do have some ideas on how to jazz up my everyday look.

Mostly, I want to look fresh-faced. Something the models at J.Crew seem to have basically copyrighted:

Images via J.Crew.com

I am obsessed with their dewey faces, bright lips, and flushed cheeks. And it doesn’t hurt that they are all about the same skin tone as me! This just might work!

The Twigs & Honey girls also seem to have nailed the look I’m going for:

Make Me Up : wedding chicago makeup 4 4

Via Twigs & Honey

So it’s not too outrageous, not too loud… but a definite departure from my everyday look. I don’t think I’ve worn colored lipstick or gloss since college! Someone save me.

Is anyone else going for a look that’s different from their everyday routine?

I want on my wedding day for my FH to say, YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL like he did when I went to prom with him 10 years ago. I don’t normally wear make-up so it will be a change of pace for me.

Just wanted to say with your complexion and coloring that look should be fairly simple to achieve.

For some reason, your title has me singing “Wake Me Up” by George Michael …. except I’m singing Make instead of Wake. LOL. But I do love this song, so thanks!

@mrsbowieii: That’s so cute! I bet you’ll hear how beautiful you look from him and probably a million other people on your wedding day.

I am totally a member of the usually doesn’t wear make up club, so I’m hoping for something really show stopping for the wedding, too. I’m jealous you have an idea of what you want, Miss Sparkler. I’m just like, uh, I want to look good?

@Miss Cannon : I am the same way! I went to have makeup done once and they asked what I was looking for…Ummm, makeup? Not to look like a clown?

@MissSparkler:Good luck with the makeup trial :-) Can’t wait to see pics!

I think your inspiration pictures will look great on you. The little pop of color on the lips might be the thing that isn’t over the top but different from your day-to-day look that makes you stand out.

I love the two looks you have! Definitely learn from my mistake, bring GOOD pictures. I think you will look so pretty! :) Idk if your makeup lady give you false eyelashes, but mine didn’t, so bring some if you want them. Bring anything you think you really really want if she/he doesn’t have it :)

This will look amazing on you, and I’m the same way, I want to look awesome! I’m not sure what ‘awesome’ is yet, but it’s certainly beyond what I normally wear.

Great inspiration photos! Sigh, the girls at J. Crew always look so effortlessly lovely. I have NO IDEA what I am going to do with my make up. Maybe I’ll just let my MUA work her magic and see what happens?
