Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!

Rawr. I know some women love a man in uniform. And I love my man, who happens to wear a uniform when the occasion calls for it (looks good doing it, too). But, did you see those J.Crew models sophisticated suits? They are much more my speed, and they are more like what I had in mind when I envisioned our wedding.

Ahem.

Oooh I agree with above - didn’t Prince William do something similar (uniform for ceremony and tux for the reception).

Great idea! I concur, uniform for the wedding, suit for the reception. Great thinking @jumpthegun.

I think jumpthegun has a great idea… and I don’t want this to sound crappy in any way, shape or form. But why not let the Groom decide what he would like? Obviously it’s a day for both of you, but I feel like often times the guys get the shaft when it comes to making decisions about the wedding. Shouldn’t he have the final say in what he’s going to wear that day?

Those JCrew suits are irresistible, no? I’m sure Mr. M will look good in either choice though!

Yeah, my fiancee is choosing a long morning coat for his attire. =] I think it’s adorable.

I love the J Crew suit, but I have to say it’s very trendy and modern. It may look outdated in years to come, where the uniform look will change… umm never, I guess. Not that I think that suit is the 2011 equivalent of the powder blue tux ;) but the uniform is just so classic. Your FI worked hard to get to wear that uniform, let him show it off!

I love the JCrew suit and the military suit. Um, this is hard. What does Mr. M think?

Here’s a wild, unorthodox idea. If you can’t decide, why not do BOTH?

Brides get to wear two dresses all the time - one for the ceremony, one for reception - and no one ever bats an eye about it. What if he did his military suit for the ceremony and changed to a sharp, civilian suit for the reception?

ALSO - in the event you decide to go with a dress suit, consider Indochino or Express. Both are considerably less expensive and still good quality - and in the case of Indochino, you get a custom suit for half the price of what you’d pay at J Crew plus a $75 alterations credit to ensure a perfect fit. :)

Cheers!

( and that’s what I get for not reading ALL the comments before posting… jumpthegun’s suggestion is great, obviously, since I just suggested it myself…!)

And remember that the suit will look different in pictures. As in, it’ll look FANASTIC when photographed by a professional. No one else will be wearing a wedding dress, and it’s just as likely that no one else will be wearing a uniform. That way you and your fiance will both get to look your best.

Think about William, he looked like even more of a hunk next to Kate! :)

@KarenK: Good point–uniforms don’t get much more formal than that!

@jumpthegun: Brilliant idea!

I am a big fan of the double attire plan… can’t go wrong with that!

I also like jumpthegun’s suggestion. He can do both.
