Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

When I first started my quest to find the one piece of clothing that will (hopefully) be cherished and remembered (by me at least!) for years to come, I had no clue what I had in mind.

I tried on dresses of all shapes, fabrics, and details, falling in love with everything from mermaid gowns to empire-waist dresses.

Here were some of my faves—but for one reason or another, they didn’t make it to the end.

Accessories Are Necessities! : wedding accessories philadelphia T3039 D t3039_d

I loved how this dress made me feel. The shantung taffeta fabric was just the right blend of laid-back and super sweet. And the pockets! The way the train romantically followed me! Even though I loved it, I had imagined something a little bit more figure fitting for our big day…

Accessories Are Necessities! : wedding accessories philadelphia Maggie 03 Maggie-03

Maggie’s Jenna stole my heart, and I literally jumped for joy after trying it on and begged to go back to try it on again—and again. Its fluffy layers and fitted silhouette were breathtaking…

But then I started envisioning the rest of my wedding-day look.

I knew I wanted gloves. But not Cinderella-esque ones…something with a little more funk and flair…like these.

And I seriously gasped (and my heart ached) when I stumbled across Australian designer Johanna Johnson’s take-your-breath-away bridal headpieces. Immediately decided whether I DIY or not, I needed a statement headpiece (along with my veil). Seriously, JJ just oozes romance from a time long, long ago—yet somehow delivers a kick of modernity.

And a bold big statement necklace—yes, please!

I know, I know…this is a LOT! I realize this.

And all these ideas that are floating around in my bridal brain paired with fluffed, beaded, blinged-out dress could be a whole lot to take in.

So that is why I opted for a more simplistic dress. Unfortunately, there isn’t a picture. (I cannot believe I forgot my camera when we went to go put money down on the dress!)

But its simplistic sweetheart neckline, fitted silhouette with small buttons down the back, and not too much else will help all my other accessories—and me—shine. And I’m a girl who loves accessories.

Did you think of the whole picture of what you envisioned when picking out your dress? Did you get accessories to match your dress or get the dress to match what you envisioned for your accessories??

I haven’t picked a single accessory- and it’s because I don’t have a dress yet! I really like the last headpiece you showed- but I don’t know if I could pull any of this stuff off. My look is a little too casual. But I can’t wait to see how you pull it all together!

I’m not a big blingy type, so I think I will be wearing something I already have. But I have already found my shoes, but not my dress. The Bouquets Iris in bronze just jumped at me. That Maggie dress is stunning! And that last headpiece throws together old world and stunning perfectly.

My, that Galina dress is stunning! I totally envisioned a dress like that for myself but the silhouette just did not look good on me. I think you made the right choice with your dress based on your description of it. Those head pieces are so modern and glamorous!

I didn’t think about accessories prior to buying my dress because I already had too much on my mind, and I’m a one track mind kinda girl.

I went for the gown and THEN went for the accessories, though I had an idea of what I wanted when I was searching for the jewelry.

And I’m trying DESPERATELY to not wear my jewelry before the wedding, too! so far, so good! (Though I did wear the necklace for a few photos… hehehehehe)

No, I had no plan whatsoever. I fell in love with a gown, drooled over it actually, then tried it on and hated it!! (Felt like a little girl playing dress-up)

But, then fell in love with MY gown and everything else has been an afterthought. It is falling in place quite nicely now and all I have left to sort out are my shoes. (that’s the best part ;D)

I had the same issue as you. Before I got engaged I fell in love with the Lazaro 4050 dress that has a ton of ruffles on the bottom and i loved the fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline. When I tried it on after I got engaged, I didn’t love it. I envisioned myself walking down the aisle and my fiance ask me once I finally reached him “what the heck are you wearing”. So I began searching and I tried all different styles until I came across an Enzoani belt that I loved. I asked the woman if she had any trumpet/mermaid style simple dresses with sweetheart neckline that I can just add this belt to it. She did and I ended up getting the LaSposa Fanal dress, simple rouched satin and i’m adding my chunky gorgeous Enzoani belt and all of my accessories are going to be the matching gunmetal silver color. My only issue now is what kind of headpiece I will wear. I know what veil I want but no clue what else.

Aside from my mom’s pearl necklace, the accessories definitely came after the dress for me. :) Looking forward to seeing your whole look come together–these inspiration photos are beautiful!

hahah I never imagined the complete picture. I’m kind of blindly picking an accessory here and there, hoping it comes together smoothly!

I got a big busy detaily dress and then added a zillion big busy accessories anyway. :) You’re lucky you possess restraint! I don’t have a drop of it!
