Mrs. Cannon's Picture
Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.
About Mrs. Cannon

After announcing the date, it wasn’t long before people started asking the typical wedding questions: Have you picked your colors? Do you have a theme? Have you hired a florist? Did you pick a dress?

Whoa, hypothetical folks, settle down! I obviously had a lot of thinking and planning to do in a short amount of time. The one thing we both knew we wanted was a casual atmosphere. Not in an “everybody show up in your jean shorts and baseball caps” type of way, but a laid-back “let’s have fun and not be stuffy” type of way. My quote? “I don’t care if anyone says it was tacky, but I will be pissed if anyone says they didn’t have fun!”

Unfortunately, “fun” isn’t really a theme. Thinking of our expectations and what we really wanted, we settled on the idea of a family barbecue. Outdoorsy, happy, loving—Mr. Cannon and I love hosting barbeques! Some of my happiest memories are parties we threw centered around getting friends together to eat barbecue. The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Everyone loves barbecues—except maybe vegetarians. Although, one of our good veggie friends came to nearly all of our barbecues and enjoyed a grilled cheese or portabella burger, so I stand by my assertion that everyone loves barbecues.

After we had an idea of how we wanted the wedding to feel, we started thinking of how we wanted the wedding to look. Colors were tricky. I absolutely love color. I like to wear bright colors and decorate with a lot of color. What is my favorite color? Trick question! The answer is all of them. How would I describe my ideal aesthetic? Loud. My vision for the wedding was bright and colorful—how could I say no to any color? So, I took the coward’s way out and picked rainbow. That’s right, we’re having a rainbow wedding. And Mr. Cannon is totally cool with it. He’s even agreed to a hot pink tie.

Hearts and rainbows—are you scared yet? I’m a little worried about pulling it off. I mean, I’m a unicorn shy of being the Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper of weddings. (Hmmm, is there a way to sneak a unicorn in? Just kidding.) But I think with the right amount of restraint I can make it something gorgeous and fun. I’ve found myself getting as much inspiration from children’s birthday parties as I have from wedding websites. Some may think that’s a bad sign, but I think it’s a sign the fun quotient is already amped up!

Has anyone else decided to embrace the rainbow?

I was such a huge Lisa Frank fanatic! While ours is not rainbow-themed, I definitely had to work in multiple colors for the very same reason. I’ve seen some very beautiful rainbow weddings, so I can’t wait to see what ideas you come up with!

I love this! I can’t wait for these pictures :) Everyone laughs when I tell them the colors of our wedding because it’s “So me” ….Lots of shades of purple, blue, and green! With elements like plaid, polka dots, buttons, gerber daisies… I’ve also been a little torn that I didn’t include pink in there :) Definitely getting inspiration from birthday parties! And my FI agreed to a purple tie :) YAY!

I am super excited about this - I LOVE color too, and I think that your idea for a “fun” themed wedding is starting with the lovely boldness of lots of color! Yea! Can’t wait to hear more.

I’m loving the rainbow theme, and the Lisa Frank reference. Yes Trapper Keepers! There are some great rainbow bridesmaids pictures floating around, I love them!

Actually I intended to do the opposite. Everyone kept asking what our “colors” would be and I said, “none”. We wanted understated neutrals…whites, ivories, tans…anti-color!

But then, I found a new inspiration and WILL have color. Not quite rainbows but certainly colorful nonetheless.
