Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
About Mrs. Marmalade

There are a few requisite questions that I get after I tell people that I am engaged to Mr. Marmalade.

  • “Did you set a date?”
  • “Are you gonna have a military wedding?”
  • (Immediately followed by)

  • “Oh, will you do the sword-arch thing?”

Weighing the Options---Military Wedding? Pt. 4 : wedding raleigh traditions Swordarch

Well, yes. If we go forward with a military wedding, there would certainly be a sabre arch. I can’t say I have ever really thought about it much, but this picture really took my breath away. There’s something so timeless and romantic about tying ourselves to such a long tradition.

The romantic in me is having a hard time resisting this!

i totally understand your sentiment with the sabre arch. i was an army brat and when i saw my first military wedding i fell in love with the sabre arch. that’s probably the one thing i wanted after all these years. sadly, i will not be marrying into the military so there’s no arch for me. but i still adore watching them

Ha! Just *yesterday* my FI pulled up a sword arch picture and showed it to me (which is weird, because he never shows me wedding stuff). I was like, “…yeah?” and he just pouted for a few seconds, then burst out, “Why can’t WE do an awesome sword arch thingee??!” Awww ’cause you’re not in the military, sweetie!

If you’re able, this is a definite pro for the military wedding, lol!

Love the sabre arch. It’s just the right amount of elegance + dramatic flair!

I love this idea. I as well love the saber arch yet am not marrying into the military. I saw it done once where the last guy tapped the bride on the toosh with the flat edge of his sword (I think that might have been in a movie or TV show) - either way I loved the playful touch. So I say go for it!

@AJ-n-Ashley: Ha! That’s the part of the tradition that makes me nervous. I’m supposed to be tapped with the sabre after we kiss. Now who the heck thought that one up?!

@Miss Sweet Cream: lol the answer is soon to come ;)

I’m holding out hope you’ll choose the military ceremony just because it’s different, elegant and seems like fun… aside from the whole sword on the bum thing.

I so, sooo want to do this, but I’m like 95% sure that the Marine Corps reserves it for officers only. Which Mr. Fish is not. At all. So I’m gonna say GO FOR IT so I can swoon over your pictures!

I’m so hoping the Military wedding wins, Marmy (I thought I’d try that nickname out—the jury’s still out on if I like it or not, heheh). Anyway! Yes, those are my two cents—the sabre arch is BADASS.
