Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

I was blessed with pretty decent handwriting in all shapes and sizes—I can do everything from a mean cursive to perfectly sized capitals.

Which should have told my parents from a very early age that it wasn’t my destiny to become a doctor.

Even though I used to be fluent in doctor writing after working for one during high school, I certainly don’t know what the heck this says! / Image via Instablogs

Even though I took my time with each loop and swirl, I do admit that cursive Zs were hard. Which certainly didn’t help when I was scribbling in my diary about jazz class or zebras at the zoo.

So even though I have become a lot better at my cursive Zs, I decided I wouldn’t be using my handwriting on our slate gray envelopes. However, there are a number of gorgeous, swirly, delightful options for addressing invite envelopes out there.

This bride freestyled all of her stationery in a scribbly larger-than-life font with a brown India-ink brush pen that I simply love.

Lettergirl has a ton of great ideas for those who have proof of sketching abilities from their old-school marble notebooks. This envelope just oozes charm in a kitsched up kind of way.

For one reason or another I found the wraparound label the best for our tastes. They are easy. They are adaptable, depending on what font/imagery you chose. Not to mention they’re cheap (with the exception of some that are beautifully designed to order by pros).

Although I would love to do the kitsched up kind of envelope inspired by lettergirl, I do picture myself being way too obsessive about each loop and swirl. I can imagine clumps of hair on our red carpet, and me crying as Mr. Sweet Cream quickly whips crumpled wasted envelopes out of my sight.

For our STDs I decided on using some sticky paper that was sitting in my craft closet. I was able to pick my favorite font, and in a Word doc I typed all the labels, printed them, used my handy paper cutter, and voila…

Wraparound labels!

How did you address your invites? By hand? By computer? By a pro? Do you have a great tip to share about doing this dreaded task?

I plan on downloading a good font (haven’t decided which one yet… too many to choose from) and just printing them on the envelopes. Nothing too fancy, just getting the job done.

We just sent our invitations out this week and I am not ashamed to admit (though I probably should be) that I went full anti-bride on this one. Excel, mail merge, Garamond 11 pt, standard clear address-sized labels. We even put some of the labels on straight.

Nice envelopes are one of those things I can appreciate but with my handwriting and lousy design skills there’s no way I could do it myself, and I didn’t appreciate it enough to pay for something nice.

I hand addressed our STDs, but I think our invitations deserve a cleaner look than my handwriting can provide, so I’m hoping I can just run them through a printer. I love how your wrap around labels look!

Love all of your handwriting samples. We ran ours through the home printer but the typeface had a quirky, handwritten feel. If I hadn’t found a typeface I loved, it would have been calligraphy (mine or paying someone).

I have never tried printing directly on an envelope and I could see myself wasting all my expensive paper source envelopes as I messed up time after time. I did a wrap around label but bought the labels from onlinelabels.com and printed them at work (shhh, don’t tell).

Hey thanks for the shout-out! I was so close to using wrap-around labels. I love the look of them!

We’re using labels… ’cause otherwise, they’d be returned due to no one being able to read ‘em! LOL! (ok, my writing isn’t THAT bad, but it ain’t that great, either!)

Besides, I’m a computer geek and everyone who knows us, knows this. Those who don’t…. will roll their eyes and figure my FI has finally found someone who fits HIM perfectly ;)

I hand-addressed the STDs but used a laser printer for our invitations, and I’m so thrilled with how they came out!

I hand addressed all 80 of the envelopes for our invitations, and the envelopes for the RSVP cards, with a gold india ink pen. I was just glad my handwriting looked fancy enough to be able to get away with it!

I was a total flake with the STDs and just printed the addresses on the postcards with a ballpoint pen. They were cute but I just didn’t care that much. Not so with the invitations. A friend asked me if I actually needed the RSVP card back and I about took his head off. That was two whole days of my life that I spent addressing those damn things! Damn straight I want the physical reply card back!

These are so cute and simple!!! I’ve always loved wraparound labels, but we ended up going with a calligrapher (I found an amazing one for a steal of a deal on Etsy).

I can’t decide what we are doing for our labels. But, I MUST know where you got your envelopes from! Grey is my favorite color and our colors are grey, green and light blue.

I’m so jealous of all of you brave handwriting brides! I just know I would seriously be way too critical to do this!! @AuroraRose2011 - you go girl! ;)

And yay for label chicas. I really think that this is the safest route knowing my perfectionist personality…

@Miss Seal - Who did you wind up using on Etsy?

@JNWhite - ActionEnvelope! I searched (& searched) for grey envelopes both in stores & online until I finally found these. I guess grey envelopes are hard to come by? Go to http://www.actionenvelope.com and you can shop by color (Click “Shop By Color” on far left top, Then “Select a Color” (you can shop by color, collection, size or use). I chose slate but there is antheracite metallic, grey kraft, gray parchment and pastel grey too! Good luck in your envelope hunt!! :)

@JNWhite - Update - I just double checked to make sure that I told you the right way to find colors on ActionEnvelope.com… and when you go to the homepage the “Select a Color” is in the middle of the screen… i’m sure that you’d find it — but just in case…

This post reminded me how much I want one of those brush pens. ;) We went with wraparound labels for our STDs and I hand-wrote the addresses for our invitations. I like the combination of typefaces you chose!

Thanks so much Miss Sweet Cream! I have been searching and have only been able to find very pale grey shades in envelopes. I can wait to check that site out!!
