Marrying Kind of Music

June 15th, 2011 @ 12:14 pm by Ms. Gazelle

We’ve made decisions on our ceremony music! It feels good to tick another to-do off the list!

Back in high school I used to play in the orchestra. It was the first time I heard Pachalbel’s Canon in D and I fell in love. It has been used in so many weddings, but I wasn’t going to let that deter me. Unfortunately when Mr. Gazelle hears Canon in D all he can think of is this:

So..maybe I could find another piece of music that I loved just as much? Enter So You Think You Can Dance and the first time I saw the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.

Is that Coldplay’s Yellow? By the Vitamin String Quartet? I absolutely love this version! I think we’ve got the piece of music that will play as I walk down the aisle!

What about for when our parents are seated and Mr. Gazelle and his groomsmen walk down the aisle? Mr. G loves the Princess Bride and can quote the movie line for line. The theme from the movie, Storybook Love by Mark Knopfler, is a beautiful and appropriate piece.

I think we need a piece of music for when we sign the marriage license. If so, our front runner is Vitamin String Quartet’s All You Need is Love.

And finally once we are pronounced husband and wife it will be time to joyfully recess down the aisle. The song that we plan to boogie back down the aisle to?

Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine! Should be fun, right?

The other day I was listening to these tunes in the car and imagining walking down the aisle to Yellow. It totally made my eyes well up with tears. These tunes are perfect.

Did you decide to go a little out of the box with your ceremony music selections?

Yay Coldplay by VSQ!! I’m totally doing this too! I’m having trouble picking one song out of so many great ones though ;) Is there a particular reason you picked Yellow (besides the fact that it is awesome)?

@Miss Pony: I read this and thought immediatley of Sparks by Coldplay. I thought about it for our processional, but the words are a little break upy but then also sweet. I wonder if VSQ does that one?

I am walking down the aisle to the Electric Lullaby by Kenny Wayne Shepard and the Processional will be Pride and Joy by Stevie Vaughan. I can’t wait, these songs are perfect for us!

I know how you feel - I had to stop looking for ceremony music at work because I’d tear up every time I pictures walking down the aise to a song and seeing FI’s face… music is such an important aspect of the ceremony!

Great music picks :) I loved that Panchabel rant.

I’ve been looking for ideas for ceremony music, too. The VSQ has some amazing cover songs out there - I hope to convince my fiance they are worthy of playing at our ceremony.

Good choices - and glad that SYTYCD inspired one of them - it is my favorite show!! (I also spent that dance trying to figure out what song it was - I am clueless when it comes to music. But I finally figured out it was Yellow by Coldplay - very pretty version of it though!)

@arnold palmer: Sparks is such a good song! I haven’t been able to find it by VSQ (or some other string quartet) though, which is odd since I’ve seen pretty much every other Coldplay song done.

We’re doing Walking on Sunshine too! It’s a nod to our 80’s roots and very upbeat and fun. Love it!

@toshella: I’m the same way! We are walking down the isle to Forrest Gump Theme by Alan Silvestri and my eyes well up everytime it comes up on my iTunes!

Great selections!

We will be using Coldplay’s Yellow too, but solo violin only in our pre-ceremony music. We are so very blessed in that my future cousin is a professional violinist and immediately offered to play at our wedding when she heard of our engagement.

I selected the song I would walk down the aisle to years before I ever even met Mr. D.

I walked down the aisle to Johnathan Cain’s Bridal March (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIyXWm_cw2E) and I can’t help but listen to it over and over now that I am married because it reminds me of everything that happened and how I was feeling that day!

I seriously told my fiance that if his church (Catholic=lots of rules) wouldn’t let us use Pachelbel’s Canon, we would need to look elsewhere! It’s my favorite song ever (and I’m slightly sad that it’s so common), especially if it’s played by a flute choir (assuming they are good and in tune). That’s where I fell in love with it!

We definitely went outside of the box with music but it paid off in spades! Our guests raved about the musical selections all night. So happy that you’re going with your heart!!

LOVE the Pachelbel rant, since I used to play cello. I actually considered Pachelbel’s Canon in D, but FI threatened to start quoting the rant when I arrived at the altar.
