Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
About Mrs. Marmalade

To date, I’ve been floating through this engagement with a really nonchalant attitude about planning our wedding. As I move forward with my plans, I hope to remind myself (on a daily basis, if necessary) that a wedding is just one day—the marriage is forever.

So when faced with a decision that acutally means something to one of us, I’d like to pretend that there is an option, when there really isn’t. Because really, when a decision is special enough that it means “something” to one of us, then it should mean everything to the other—at least for “something” so personal and so essential to our lives together.

The decision was made when he said it’s what he wanted, because it matters to him. And I love him, so it matters to me now. Our wedding is for the both of us, and while his military career isn’t the only thing to note about him, it is a very important part of his life. It will be a big part of our lives as a couple for the next few years.

And so it is. I’ll marry him in his blues. He’ll wear his distinctions on his chest in lieu of a boutonniere. We’ll kiss under an arch of sabres. Done.

And since we’ll have those sabres for a couple of hours, I’ll want to do this:

Yep. One badass wedding party, comin’ right up!

Did you struggle with deciding on what kind of wedding to have (whether it be military, religious, cultural, etc.)?

lol! LOVE the last photo!!!

I must confess, we’re gonna have swords and I want a few fun photos with the swords and other weaponry, too! LOL!

Ours, obviously, won’t be military, but, hey! if ya got weapons of any sort, ya gotta have the fun photos with ‘em, right?!?

We had a military wedding and it was the best decision ever. Ours was navy- so the groom/groomsmen were in their chokers. They looked amazing.

The sword arch was one of my favorite memories, and it was a blast cutting the cake with the sword.

You made a great choice! Makes for some incredible photos as well!

YYYAAAA!!! I’m so glad you chose the military wedding - I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed that that’s what you’d do all along. I’m sure you won’t regret your decision and your wedding will be absolutely beautiful. Good luck!!

How exciting will this be?!! How classy and interesting- I’ve never attended a military wedding.
By the way, we have many military (men) in our extended family and I know the sacrifices these families must make of their time and so much more. Please know that we appreciate Mr. Magic’s service and committment.

**With all of those sabers flying around, Ms. Magic’s scary pirate dude should be afraid. Very afraid. ;-)

FI will be in his uniform for the ceremony and then change into a tux for the reception. That was our compromise. After 13 years of waiting, I’m ready to see him in a tux.

The only other military aspects we are having is the sword arch and cutting our cake with his sword. I think it’s just enough military touches. We are debating whether to put his rank on our invites, so we’ll see how that plays out.

You will not regret the military aspects to your wedding. I have been to so many weddings with a wide range of military touches and they’ve all been lovely.

I was just telling my fiance the other day that the best part about marrying a military guy would be the saber arch. =) I think it’s fantastic.

I couldn’t agree more about the “somethings”. Please, please have hysterical pictures like the running-with-swords one!! (Although it looks a smidge dangerous…)

I love that mentality that when a detail is something to one partner, it should be everything to the other. Very true!

@Misslizzy: Yes, the guys that aren’t wearing uniforms will be wearing dark suits. Hopefully navy blue!
@scubashan: Oh! I’m still undecided about cutting the cake with the sword! I forgot about that!
@NYBride2Bee: I think you’re right. I won’t regret this decision, ever.
@gwyneth colleen: Ha! That’s seriously one of my favorite wedding shots ever!! How did you come up with that?
@Mrs. Pain au Chocolat: I don’t think I could help myself. If someone gives me a sword, watch out!
