Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!

A Sweet Pop of Color

June 16th, 2011 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Marmalade

There are a couple (or many) words that embody what I would like our wedding to feel like: feminine, romantic, classic, effortless. When I started planning the wedding, I took the time to create an inspiration board to represent what I wanted our wedding to feel like overall.

I present to you my original inspiration board:

It was so pretty, but it needed something. I quickly realized that the one thing that was missing was a bold accent, something loud, something more “me.” That something was RED.

Oddly enough, I never considered including red even though it’s our favorite color—yes, our. Now, I don’t claim to have interior decorating skills (wish I did), but the colors of my bedroom are crisp white and sea glass with touches of candy apple red. Instead of trying to look for inspiration, I quickly realized that the best thing is to go with what you know. Don’t think too much and just choose what feels right. To me, that was something as simple as being inspired by the color palette in my favorite room.

The only thing is that when it comes to a color as bold as red, it’s easy to get carried away. Red is a color that makes ME happy, but it’s also associated with passion, aggression, danger—not really a sweet, feminine, elegant color for a wedding.

So I did what any bride-to-be would do. I consulted Martha. And look at that!

Yes! Back on the red train!

Cherries are red in a very sweet and subtle way. They are organic, so there is a natural variation in color that I love. And they are actually quite beautiful and elegant. Oh, and did I mention that they are in season for the summer? Because they are, and what could be more perfect than taking inspiration from the season?

Now I just needed to figure out how and where to use them!

Was it hard to decide on a color palette for your wedding? Did you use the season as a guide? Or any of your favorite things/places?

That is so funny! As I looked at your inspiration board, I was admiring how nice the pop of red in the background of photo #6 looked against the rest of the photos - it’s like your subconscious knew it would be the perfect accent all along! and cherries are such a cool and unusual touch, love it!

I love your colors & that they stemmed from something that is right in front of you in your own abode. Our living room is actually red, black, white and a turquoise color (a little bit brighter than sea glass) and although it doesn’t sound quite right - it goes together perfectly.

AND… your inspiration board does certainly evoke feminine, romantic, classic, effortless…. and with the pop of red it’s absolutely brilliant!! :)

Colors were the first thing we decided on, and probably the easiest decision for us! Even though we’re getting married in October, neither of us really like fall-ish colors. We pretty quickly decided on navy blue and kelly green for several reasons: my favorite color is kelly green (and I’m Irish), blues and greens look great together, and navy is a color everyone can pull off (for BM dresses). Plus, we like the preppy/almost nautical look these two colors have.

I love your color board! I agree the red is a great pop of color. It will be beautiful!

I love the red pop!

I am also having a summer wedding. I always knew I wanted Navy as my primary color because I wanted my girls to be able to wear their dress again. We have decided to partner it with lime green, lemon and pops of pink.

soo excited!

I love the inspiration board.
I decided on our colours by searching on-line for ktichen inspiration and found wedding stationary and I knew straight away that’s what I wanted. I always wanted red but thought it would be too heavy for a Summer wedding, which is in 3 days Eeeeek!
AlwaysWright x ;)

It took me forever to decide on colors! I love the idea of bright colors, but I didn’t want things to clash and be TOO much. Then I did read an article about going with colors that are comfortable and that you know, and it definitely helped me decided on our colors, which is different shades of pink, including stronger pink accents here and there, but subtly and not too much because I want the whole romantic feel too =). We’re putting it with champagne and black. But yeah, I’ve grown up with a pink room, I wear a lot of pink, and my fiance likes wearing pink too. So it all just came together =).

I really like the pop of red! We went with our favorite colors (and colors of our bathroom) when picking our wedding colors.

That cherry red is a great addition to your color palette! We (and by we, I mean me…) were very indecisive about our colors for many moons.

@Mrs. Tartlet: Oh just wait! This is sooo not the end.
@weddingstars2012: I love how that happens. Once I settled on our color palette I realized that I was staring at those colors all along.

@Mrs. Elephant: I loved your color scheme!

@Prewitt: Hey AW! I know what you mean about red. I can’t say we stuck to this palette…

I think using colors in your home is absolutely the way to go. That’s what we’re doing because we know we love them and then we can re-use wedding stuff and pictures from the wedding more easily in our decor after.

I love your board! It exactly portrays your words in my opinion. But I admit, I’m biased and like the hints of red as well!!!

@Miss Macarons: I know a great place to get those necklaces. They even did a custom order for me. They’re the best! I have like 5 of them and can vouch for their quality.
