Midnight Crafting

June 16th, 2011 @ 12:10 pm by Mrs. High Wire

My FBIL (and Mr. High Wire’s best man!) and his girlfriend came to visit in celebration of FBIL’s 21st birthday. I assumed the boys would want to engage in some boy-like activities (AKA video games), so I picked up some wedding-related crafty things for us girls to do while that was going on.

We spent the day at a golf tournament in Ft. Worth and took a little refuge under a tent during a little rainstorm.

My prediction was pretty off about the whole video-game thing, because by midnight FBIL was coloring in my princess coloring book (anyone else have super special coloring books that they break out on occasion?) at the table with us, and Mr. High Wire was busy directing and critiquing our painting endeavors. Who needs video games anyway?

We were mid-project when I realized I hadn’t gotten a good camera shot of our goodies! Here is a shot in the middle of our work at the kitchen table. I picked up some wooden letters that are each of our first name initials (B and R) and our new matching last name (E). I also picked up three bottles of acrylic paint in our wedding colors, a couple of birdhouses to paint, and some assorted brushes.

Mid-midnight crafting! Getting a good start on her birdhouse.

Here’s mine under construction.

After one coat of paint things were looking a little funny, but after two coats everything really started to pop.

S even took advantage of some stencils I had in my craft drawer and did some awesome designs on the side of her house!

I was too chicken to experiment with the stencils. For my artistic endeavors, “less is more” usually keeps my projects looking their best. I’m glad she was willing to take the risk, because her birdhouse came out looking awesome!

I’m not exactly sure where these will go on display for the wedding day, but I can’t wait for them to make an appearance, and she can point them out and say, “I MADE THAT!” I plan to do the same. :)

Do you have a craft drawer? Tell me what you keep in it.

Love the bird houses. Those look really cute. Oh and you’re not the only one with coloring urges. My best friends mom took us out to dinner one night and requested crayons for us “children” as a joke. We actually used them and got her to join in.

Craft drawers are the best for wedding projects! The goodies in there are inspiring (& free!). Your birdhouses & initials are adorable & it sounds like you had a blast mid-night crafting. I feel that mid-night crafting is soon going to be a regular event in our house as October gets closer ;)

I always have at least 2 coloring books and a box of crayola crayons hanging out in the house somewhere! ;) Sometimes a girl just needs to color.

Drawer? I have a whole bookshelf full of random crafting stuff. A lot of it is fabric for quilting, then random paper, paint, and ribbons.
I love your bird house! What are you doing with the letters at the wedding?

So cute! I too am with the “less is more” approach for my crafting, I need to remember my limits with these things.

I am really looking forward to working on the many DIY projects I have planned. But my favorite activity…hands down…is coloring. I have several coloring books and crayons at home (I tell everyone they’re for the grandkids), but most of the pages are done by me. It’s the best stress reliever ever.

Did you ladies know that coloring is a known stress relief? Its no wonder we all have the urge to color around our weddings! Because of the upcoming nuptials, my crafts have started to overtake the house, but I wouldnt have it any other way. :)

I need to organize my crafting supplies into a drawer; everything is stuffed into an overflowing canvas bag at the moment!

I love the pretty bird houses!

I have a very full craft drawer, a sewing craft box in my closest, and a handy on-the-go craft tote (full of my *a’hem* May DIY project). Whoopsie.

I have been drawn to those adult coloring books with the pretty geometric patterns in them but Mr. D laughed at me when I tried to buy one so I skipped.
