Mrs. Snow Cone's Picture
Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer Engagement Date: April 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

Forever Young

June 17th, 2011 @ 11:50 am by Mrs. Snow Cone

Way, way, way back when in the wedding planning process, I came up with the ingenious idea to display childhood photos of us at the reception. I liked the idea of having them on a static display so that our guests could mosey on over and take a peek whenever they wanted to, as opposed to halting the flow of the entire evening and forcing everyone to feast their eyes on a slideshow. I really loved thinking of guests meandering past our photos, laughing, reminiscing, and talking about how awesome Mr. Snow Cone and yours truly are. Because we truly are.

Anyhow, I debated a few different display options. My first draft included making posters on Snapfish with collages of our photos and displaying them on easels or hanging on walls. I eventually realized that could be cumbersome with the easels, I didn’t know how hanging things on the walls would work, and it just wasn’t hitting the nail on the head.

I toyed with setting up a digital frame like Miss Cinnamon Bun, but that just wasn’t tripping my trigger either. Plus, it kind of diminished some of the static dimension to the display. After brainstorming a bit more, I think I’ve come up with a display option that fits the bill, but I want to put it together before officially declaring it the winner.

Even though I don’t have the exact display format determined, I couldn’t resist sharing some of the photos with you, since Snow Cone tots are just too friggin’ cute.

First up, Mr. Snow Cone:

And then me!

Forever Young : wedding pictures pittsburgh Jillph01 Jill+Ph01

Forever Young : wedding pictures pittsburgh Jillph02 Jill+Ph02

See? How can you look at these photos and not immediately want to start telling stories about your own childhood or a Snow Cone childhood? Actually, don’t tell stories about a Snow Cone childhood… you don’t know me, so that would be creepy. Just focus on your own stories.

Are you displaying childhood photos of the happy couple at your wedding? What display method are you utilizing?

(all photos personal.)

Okay, first of all, these pictures are way too cute. Second, I am now convinced that we were separated at birth. And by birth, I mean one of us must have been adopted, because I have almost the exact same picture of me when I was a toddler as your first picture! I had that exact same car! :) Hilarious.

We did a slideshow! It is so standard in my family that it would have been weird if we skipped it. I loved it though - we even included a part at the end of our kiddy pics which had our engagement photos…and surprise voiceovers of me and my husband talking about how we first met, why we wanted to spend our lives together, etc. (Surprise, meaning that I didn’t know what my husband said until that day, and vice versa.) Since we had a Catholic wedding, I felt this was a way to do creative “vows”. Anywho, to each her own, right?

Cute pics! I wanted the same thing as you did, and I built a photo wall thing using fabric, ribbon, and cardstock. It was a HUGE hit. You can see my tutorial here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/diy-photo-wall-how-to and pics of it in use at the wedding here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/corgi-wedding-details

These are so cute! Mr. Snow Cone looks so sure of himself and comfy with those cute little sneaks on the kitchen floor… And look at your sleep & all content in your stroller…

You have inspired me with your great idea! I was originally going to display family marriage shots as far back as we could…but I love the idea of mixing it all together now. Great idea, Snow Cone!!! Great idea! ;)

I never really though about it because I’m not a fan of my childhood pictures, but who knows, maybe I’ll chance my mind.

These are so cute! We’re not organized enough to do anything like this, so I love seeing other couples’ displays! And that zebra float-y thing looks awesome!

Super cute photos! We bought some cheap (junkyard) frames and filled them with our photos. We had a line of trees as you entered into the (outdoor) venue, so we hung them on the trees. Later that night they were placed on a table under the reception tent. It worked pretty well!

love the idea of not doing the obligatory sit down and watch slideshow. we are stringing our pictures on twine with mini clothes pins and sweet little red hearts pinned here and there. i feel like every blog lately has this done, but i have to remind myself my guests arent as wedding blog obsessed as I am and theyve probably never seen this! good luck on your choice!

Those pictures are way cute!!! I love looking at old baby pictures :) For our display I’m mounting the pictures on pretty cardstock(so i can write who’s who on the bottom) and then hanging them with clothespins from twine that I’m going to hang on the walls.

I really really want to do this, but I also haven’t decided how. I read miss cinnamon bun’s post and really liked that idea, but we can’t afford to buy two decent sized digital frames.
I think maybe I’ll collect some photo frames from a dollar store or something and display them on the guest book table or our guest tables…

I had that car! And that zebra!

I’m very excited to hear your solution - I may steal it as we’ve been grappling with the same thing.

I LOVE photos and would love to display childhood photos! I’ve thought about the slide show idea, but I don’t want to spend money renting a projector. One idea I had was covering the present table with glass and putting a collage of pictures under the glass. Granted, the pictures would get hidden. Hmm…I can’t wait to see what your idea is!

We made photo-holders by twisting pieces of wire into curlicues and slipping the photos in the folds of the curls. We left one end of the wire long, then put several photo-holders in a vase at each table. Those were our centerpieces.

I love this. I was originally going to do a slide show. But no! Your idea for the static part has won my heart! I cannot wait to see what you come up with. I thought about displaying pictures from ribbons held by colorful paperclips. but I am not sure what to hang the ribbon from though… Again I love this :)
