Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

After our dads spoke it was time for food! City Catering really outdid themselves at our reception. We opted for what I like to call a  “Eat and Mingle” buffet. The food was light, fresh and summery. Most importantly, it could all be eaten with a fork.

“A fork,” you ask?

Yes, a fork. You might remember back to my Gocco the fork idea. Well, it was a pretty darn good idea and I Goccoed 200+ forks for our guests. Taking the hive’s suggestions we had four versions (in four colors) that read: “Nom, Nom, Nom” “Matt ♥ Amy” ”Amy ♥ Matt” and “Love on Tap”

Enough about the forks! Let’s eat! City Catering prepared the following dishes:

Black Bean, Jicama & Corn Salad (top) Quinoa Salad (bottom)

My mouth is watering just thinking about the food. I wasn’t a bashful bride and fixed myself a heaping plate. It’s good that I did, I never did make it back to the buffet for seconds.

Our “Mix and Mingle” seating meant that people ate pretty much everywhere. It also meant that it was easy to move myself around and catch up with friends while I ate. Genius!

Mr P roved around the room while he ate.

My BIL and SIL caught a quiet moment outside with their dinners.

The kids had sodas…

…and the adults had beer (mmm… beer). Life was good and the bellies were getting filled.

Up next: We have some all-stars in the photo booth.

Yummy! My florist has convinced us to do a mix and mingle too with food stations all over the room. I’m concerned people won’t get it and just find a place and park it! Did you do anything to encourage the mingling?

@angeebride: Don’t give everyone a seat is the easiest one. We didn’t- We had some rounds, lots of cocktail tables and two different lounge areas. Sure Mr P’s family totally staked out a table and didn’t move from it all night, and my family totally staked out the lounge area, but other people mingled more. If you are in a more traditional part of the country (i.e. in the middle) I would definitely not suggest this option and provide everyone seats. That is just my experience with family from all over the country. Folks from the middle really like a seat to call their own.

A second thing we did was put fun facts on the tables about us, the venue, the beer, the wine, etc. All the tables were unique and some people caught on and made it a mission to read as many of them as possible.

#1: Love the ‘nom nom nom’ forks!
#2: I’m glad to hear a mingle-y reception like this works! My mum is still skeptical that ours will work. She’s been so insistent that we have one reserved table for the parents, and the rest will be for whoever, whenever.
