I’d Be Stuck Without You

June 17th, 2011 @ 3:25 pm by Mrs. High Wire

I’ll just go ahead and say it: I am in wedding-planning limbo, hive.

Our apartment is in shambles with packing boxes everywhere as we prepare for our big move from renting our first apartment together to owning our very own home.

There is so much to be done regarding this move besides packing. Up until now it was making offers, mortgage-loan approval, and closing. Now we’re moving on to canceling utilities, setting up new ones, changing our address with the post office, coordinating moving helpers, sorting, taking things to Goodwill, etc. You know the drill if you’ve ever moved before.

And let’s not even begin to talk about all the one-time expenses associated with moving.

I’m also a little nervous about how we’ll handle the actual transition from renting to owning, doubling our commute time every day, and establishing ourselves in a totally new community.

Needless to say, preparing for this move is sucking a lot of my energy and money away from my usual free-time activity: wedding planning.

Thanks to our semi-lengthy engagement (just shy of a year), we’ve accomplished just about as much as we can at this point in planning. But by the time we get completely settled into our new home, we’ll really have to hit the ground running again in order to make sure we get everything done in time. My bridal shower is scheduled for three weeks after we move, and then it is go go go until the big day.

The urgency I’m feeling during this planning “pause” of sorts is starting to really bug me, but this wonderful community (you guys!) is really keeping me inspired to write more for you wonderful readers before we move and do all I can to keep focusing on wedding planning, even while preparing for this move. So thank you, hive, for your inspiration and motivation!

Moving takes a lot out of you! I still haven’t recovered from moving Mr. Pony last week! I hope it all goes well!

I know what you are going through. My future husband and I are preparing to buy our first house too. We are getting married in October of this year. About a month ago he asked me to look into this house we saw for sale. That started this whole thing of looking for houses. Since starting to look we have found a house we like and put an offer on. We are hoping to close in August before our lease is up. also my shower is planned for the beginning of August. I am trying to stay organized and focused on wedding plans and this house craze.

Best of luck to you!!

Good luck with the move! I’m moving with my SO from our apartment in CT to my parents in NY for a couple weeks and then to our new apartment in CO (which we still have to find). So although we haven’t bought a house, moving is still crazy.
