About Mrs. Macarons

Part III

For a moment, I thought Mr. Macarons was getting even.

Maybe I was being set up for kind of being a jerk to him on campus. Then my phone rang. It was Macs. “Um, you don’t live in a trailer park…do you?” He must have turned one street too soon. I gave him better directions and told him I’d meet him outside.

When Mr. Macs pulled up, he was surprised to see me in a skirt. He asked me if I was looking forward to seeing the movie and if I was ready. “YES,” I exclaimed, though I had no clue what it was about. I could have been walking into the worst movie ever, but I didn’t care—I was finally going to be alone with the guy “I recently couldn’t stop thinking about.”

While Macs was buying tickets I started to daydream. Thoughts of shared popcorn and accidental handholding filled my head. I was brought back to reality, though, when I heard Mr. Macarons say, “Hey! I’m glad you could make it.” I turned around and there was our friend, the one that introduced us. What was he doing here? When I told him I was going to see a movie with Macs, it wasn’t an open invitation! So much for it being more date-like.

I normally get sucked into movies, but it was hard with Mr. Macarons by my side. He’s so much more handsome in person, I couldn’t help but stare. I secretly hoped Macs would notice, but the only person that did was our friend. After a few angry glares he got the hint and went home right after the movie. I finally had Macs all to myself, but I was worried our short drive wouldn’t give him enough time to see the real me.

When we arrived at my apartment I reluctantly tried to wrap up the conversation, thinking he’d probably had enough. We talked for over an hour before commenting it was late and that we should probably go. We tried to wrap things up, but each time one of us would say something that would spawn a whole new discussion. We completely lost track of time; it wasn’t until we heard a rooster crow (really!) that we decided to say goodbye, but not without agreeing we’d have to get together again soon.

Hold up, so after all that, no hug or kiss? No sparks under the covers? It was practically morning—why didn’t you go have breakfast? Don’t you worry, it was only a matter of days before we finally kissed and I became a permanent guest in his apartment (sorry, Mom!). Despite the rough start, our first “date” couldn’t have been more perfect.

Did your relationship have an unusual start?

My fiance and I had met about three weeks before our first date and we had hung out with a group of friends a few times. Our first date wasn’t even really officially a date, we were just alone together instead of with a group. He meant it to be a date but didn’t have the courage to say that out straight, and I wanted it to be a date but didn’t have the courage to ask if it was! We had dinner together first and I had I think three margaritas and then we went to a movie and I slept through the whole thing!

I used to work for my fiance when I was a teenager. Then out of nowhere, many many years later, I ran smack into him at a Wawa. (Literally, I almost knocked us both over!). We went out for drinks to just catch up and we just kept talking and talking and talking. Then at the end of the night, he didn’t make a weird move. He just gave me a little hug and said he had fun and we should do it again. I was amazed I found a gentleman!!

Haha, aw very cute. So hard when those sparks are there and there’s no “action” to get things uh… going.

Aw thats such a cute story!

My fiance and I have a similar kind of story actually. It was thanksgiving so we had a few days off school so he had gone up to visit his parents. I had just broken up with my ex-bf couple days before and I was all alone in my apartment (my roommates had all gone away for the break) and feeling kinda sad. I convinced him to come back early from the break and he showed up at my place at about 11. We stayed up the whole night chatting and watching movies but we didn’t have our first kiss until about a week later.

the first 6 years i knew my fiance, it was as a very close internet friend. we would confide in each other and complain about feeling like no one understood us. it’s an unusual start because it took us 6 years to finally meet in person and during that whole time, we never realized how great we are for each other!

What a great first (non) date! I love that a rooster crow broke your conversation.

Ha. This sounds very you two. How have I never heard this story? I sort of miss that website. And college.
