Mrs. Cannon's Picture
Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

Height Differential

June 20th, 2011 @ 12:11 pm by Mrs. Cannon

When Mr. Cannon and I started dating, I was aware he was shorter than me, but because we are generally not standing while hanging out, it wasn’t really that noticeable. Mr. Cannon is kind of short for a guy, and I’m sort of tall for a lady. It wasn’t until I saw his driver’s license that I realized he was only 5’6″. I’m five inches taller (5’11″ for those not inclined to do the math).

The cool part is that neither of us cares. Honestly, he was always short growing up, and I was always tall. We’re used to comments and neither of us is too concerned about it. That being said, I will admit I wear lower heels less than I used to, but more for comfort than height concerns.

I had a hard time finding pictures of us standing, and in all of them I’m doing this thing where I attempt to be his height.

Mr. Cannon is in no way insecure about his height, which I think is pretty sexy. (I love confidence!) But, I did ask him how he felt about me wearing heels to the wedding. I really want to wear some because 1) there are so many cute heels! 2) this is an excuse to spend way more on shoes than I normally would and 3) I’m wearing a short dress and heels make my legs look shapelier.

His response? “Just don’t go so high that I can’t kiss you!”

So four inches is cool, right? ;)

This is so refreshing! I hate the arbitrary social standard that a guy is supposed to be taller. I have had tall females berate me, as a short woman, for stealing a tall guy from their already small pool of potential mates. Um, what?

You guys are a good looking couple at any height, and you’re happy together and that’s what matters!

I’m 5′11″ and always felt awkward dating shorter men. It just made me feel gigantic and ungainly, for some reason.

Kudos to you and Mr. Cannon for being comfortable no matter what! And, it’s awesome that you still love to wear heels– I’m a flats fan myself. :)

Thanks for writing about this! Mr. FW and I are both, ahem, vertically challenged and I’m probably about an inch taller than him. I hate the societal assumption that men should be taller than women. If you’re in a couple where that’s true, great. But if it’s not true, there’s not much you can do about it anyway - so why not embrace it, high heels and all!

Can I just say that this assumption that men should be taller really, really annoys me?? I personally think it stems from the whole “men need to be the big, strong protector” mentality. Stupid.

That being said, Mr. CA is taller than me, so I don’t have to worry about it.

But, you guys are a super cute couple! Glad the height difference doesn’t bother either of you. And you ROCK those heels, girl!! Can’t wait to see pics!

I’m the other way around. I’m only 5′ where my SO is around 6”. I don’t normally wear heels, but I will that day.

Glad you posted about this! Mr. B is shorter than me, too and we don’t let it bother us one bit either! Mr. C sounds like an amazing sport about your desire to wear heels! Definitely a winner :)

Tall girls unite! My SO and I are the exact same height and I have no plans to not wear heels at our wedding. He’ll learn to deal :)

He he he. What are you always doing together if you’re never standing around? I have the mind of a third grader…oops.

How cool - that’s almost exactly the same height difference as my parents! (only 5′5″ - 5′10″, so an inch off) Maybe as a result, I never thought it was strange to date shorter guys, even though I’m only average height for a girl. Glad to hear you’re not letting a little thing like height interfere with cute shoes! :)

Oh man, we have a 13 inch difference in our heights, so even if I wore 6 inch heels there would still be a huge difference!! It’s so great to see that you two are confident in your heights though, because I’ve known lots of girls who refuse to wear shoes they love because they don’t want to be taller.

I’m 5′11″ (and a quarter inch) and my husband is the first guy I’ve ever dated that was taller than me! He’s 6′1 and I definitely wore 3.25″ heels on our wedding. I love that you’re both so confident about it! Being tall is awesome :)

I SO cannot relate!! I’m 5′3″ (on a good hair day). Mr. D is 5′7″, so we are a perfect fit.

Aw! Love his response!
@Ms. Wolf: We also have a 13″ difference. Never having to worry about whether the heels are too high is a nice perk.

Mr. C’s response is effin’ adorable! You two are so cute together ;) The pic made me giggle—I’m only a couple of inches shorter than the Sealman but often wear heels that make me taller than him and I totally (without realizing I do so) bend my knees or lean into him in photos to make myself his height!
